Out of curiosity, for the authors here, is there any particular genre or influence you despise writing? I find myself cringing at any attempt I do at romance, thinking it feels particularly bleh. But when it comes to action/adventure, coupled with fantasy, words just so very easily flow out of me.

Do you guys ever try, and delve into the genre you dislike/are unfamiliar with?

Along the same line of question for readers, is there any particular genre you definitely do not enjoy? Do you try, and find a book that might get you into it? Or do you just pass it by?

This comes about because I challenged myself to write romance, and while my friends who are sneaking quick peeks at it like it, they laugh because it does not at all have a romantic feel to it. >.>;; And I was wondering if I’m alone in this boat, or if there are others joining me in the what-am-i-even-doing brigade.
