I try to let the author know whenever I write reviews. I recently wrote one for Jane Green and she wrote me back how much she liked my review. I have had mostly positive results. I have even had random comments from an author's publisher or agent. So I would say try it.

Becky I would like to be involved with more myself. I write in my blog but am really involved with three: chicklitclub.com, chick Lit Central, and Chick Lit Plus. I don't know if this answers your question.
