I can see the Pierce Brosnan thing. That's sort of a type for me, anyway, though. I was a huge Remington Steele fan back in the day.

73734 Yay! So glad you enjoyed. Re-reading is always the biggest compliment :-D

Heh. Yeah. Master's in Educational Psychology/Special Ed. Education is never wasted, you know? My law degree comes in handy sometimes, too ;-)

Good question! I think Ivan is very good at compartmentalizing. Or perhaps very bad about not compartmentalizing. And while he might have noticed right away that Cami was empirically attractive - which for him would probably sound something like "even features, symmetrical, healthy BMI, sufficiently developed secondary sexual characteristics" and so forth - I suspect he'd shut that line of thinking down just about as soon as it started for any woman he spent a lot of time without outside the venue he considered "sex-appropriate" (the club). That probably continued until he started having more personal conversations with her and she started coming on to him over a long period of time until it becomes obvious even to him. At that point his physical reactions might well have caused him a certain degree of anxiety, because they'd be hard for him to categorize outside of their setting. He enjoys conversing with her, finds her engaging on an intellectual level, and does consider her a friend, so he doesn't want to stop spending time with her...but he finds her sexually attractive as well which causes him some internal conflict once he acknowledges it. He's spent a considerable amount of time and energy training himself not to respond that way to women in the vanilla world, but Cami kind of slips in under his radar. What to do?

Until, of course, he realizes she's down with the kinky stuff. Then he makes an effort, goes outside his comfort zone, and learns to generalize his sexual behavior to a new setting. He generalizes the heck out of those sexytimes. Actually, technically, I think it's not just generalization from one setting to another as perhaps learning to respond to a new set of discriminative stimuli. The response of "have kinky sex stuff now=all systems go", formerly triggered upon entering the club, is now also conditioned to occur in the presence of the new stimulus, Cami in a suitably private space with no pressing commitments.

Um...hey, guys? Hey, where'd everybody go? Are...are those crickets? I'll stop talking about behavior analysis now! Really! Hey, come back...

:-D

I agree. It's all about the brains.

That might just be my zombie leanings though.

He's pretty hot with or without them."

Niiiice. The hair would have to be darkened. But that's doable.

Woot! You've made my day, hon! So glad you enjoyed it enough to re-read, that really does say it all :-D

73734 I could totally see Jason Behr, actually. That chiseled thing, the so-handsome-he's-almost-too-pretty-to-be-handsome thing. All the more devastating on a dude who has no clue what he looks like and doesn't care. Totally can't see Kaley Cuoco as Cami, though I guess I can see where people might go there, as you say. Especially certain shippers.

Monroe! Oh, gosh, why is that stuck in my brain? But no...not a good image. But Bana, hmmm...I could've seen him as Ivan like ten, fifteen years ago.

73734 Okay, now that folks are showing up, the truth can be told. Yeah, there are important issues that came up in reviews, like what is Ivan's deal, and is Cami just doing submissive things to be with Ivan (hint: no)...but the REAL reason I started the group was that Samantha Ann King asked on Facebook yesterday who should play Ivan in the movie.

So...that strikes me as something that bears some discussion. Serious business, obviously.

FWIW, Jim Parsons? Not who I picture when I think of Ivan. But I'd love to know who y'all think would be good :-)

73734 Howdy! I noticed folks were bringing up some really interesting things in reviews for TToA, and now that the book's been out for a week or so I thought I'd go ahead and invite y'all to discuss that stuff in one place. Feel free to ask me questions or pose them to the group at large. I'll probably keep the Q&A going for a few weeks to a month. Fire when ready!
