Today I have been changing the dialogue for some of the military personnel in the first few chapters. It was pointed out to me that some of them give too much information too easily. Now I've got to find suitable ways of giving some of the same information to the reader via other characters. That's going to be tricky - but worth it in the long run. It will certainly help the credibility of the military characters in the book.
I'm beginning to think I'm going to be hard-pressed to meet my publishing deadline.

Chapter 10 is rewritten. Not an easy job but having seen the results, definitely a good move. I've altered which characters are present and swapped it to a new location - it works much better and the conversion is not only much improved but the way they reached the important decision at the end is now totally plausible.
I just hope that's the biggest change required!

Corrections are going well. Most things have been simply typo style errors, but there have been a couple of much heavier edits. Chapter 10 has been the biggest casualty. Looks like I am mostly rewriting that one :(
To be fair I can see why, but it's not going to be an easy one to do.

So far relatively few typos reported, but what has bowled me over is the comments I've had back. Very positive indeed! Let's hope my readers think the same thing.
I've had several people say that you can't really rate anyone's writing ability until they finish writing their third book. My first two had okay reviews, so it will be fascinating to see how this third book rates on Amazon when it's released.

Another milestone reached: Book 3 is now in the hands of the proofreaders. Now I can sit back and wait for the mass of typo reports to flood in :(

I'm in danger of falling behind now. Final touches to the book are taking longer than I predicted and I don't think I'll be sending it for proofreading before the latter end of tomorrow.

My trusty team of proofreaders are braced to receive the first finished draft of Book 3. That's always a scary moment for me. It always seems no matter how thoroughly I think I've checked and rechecked it, there are always dozens of errors I've missed. I guess that's why proofreaders are SO vital to the whole process.

If you would like to know more about the Astronomicon universe, the inspiration behind it and the technologies used in the books so far, please ask here and I will do my best to answer everything.

The 3rd book in the Astronomicon series marks a serious and exciting expansion of the scenario, many new elements are introduced, revealing more of the true scale of events within the story. Readers get their first taste of Mars Colony 1 and the human race discovers that we really are not alone in the universe.
I am pleased to report that I am most of the way through writing this science fiction novel. It should only be a matter of weeks before I hand it over to the proof-reading team. Obviously it’s difficult to predict when Astronomicon: Distant Relatives will be published, but I’m hoping to release it sometime during the summer of 2012.

Welcome to the group. The best way to begin is by introducing yourself to the rest of the group, and this is the place to do that. If you are an author who also writes sci-fi, this would be a good place to mention that too.
