I also nominate Fascism by Albright and The Jungle Grows Back by Robert Kagan. The former is a tremendous look at the arc of authoritarianism in the West since Mussolini by a supremely qualified interpreter. The latter looks really good; heard the author on The Lawfare Podcast last month and immediately moved the book to my “to read” list

I just read The Death of Truth - it would make an excellent read

Quick read. Depressing in its plausibility. It does pick up the baton from Woodward’s Fear. A big piece that stood out to me, other than Trump’s spot on characterization, was the failure of government officials to accurately interpret Kim’s thought processes. This seems highly likely in real life.

Just starting the book this morning. Looking forward to the read and the discussion!

Latest DSR podcast talks about the book. Whets my reading appetite!

I haven’t been able to progress far in the book, but what I’ve read is very repetitive.
I did recently read Richard Evans’ first two books in his trilogy on the Third Reich. There was quite an undercurrent of antisemitism in interwar Germany, as in many Western nations. The compounding factor was pairing that present prejudice with the need for a scapegoat for the loss in WWI. The result was a fertile ground among a sizable minority of the German population.

Book came in yesterday! Looking forward to starting.

Hello! I’m a pastor in rural Virginia, I’ve been listening to DSR about a year and find it fascinating and enlightening. Love to read as well, looking forward to this group!
