CMLE Libraries’s comments from the High School Reading Challenge group.

The cover art on books is supposed to sell the book to you; so look around and find one that is colorful, sparkly, has cool graphics, or anything else that stands out to you!

Books can help you learn about people, so find a book about a person with a different gender, religion, nationality or citizenship, someone who plays sports or who plays music - whatever makes sense to you!

The content of books is what makes them important , but you can find books in a variety of formats: paper, audio, and eBooks. If you have not tried a format other than paper, dive in now! (Use your public library card to access all kinds of audio and eBooks.) If you have tried other formats, find one that is great in that format; some books are best heard, some are best experienced with an eBook format, some are best on paper. Explore and find out what is best for you, and for your book!

There are millions of books out there you might read - more if you can read langues in addition to English. How do you find something you will like??

You have seen fictional characters talking about the books they have read; find the book and enjoy it yourself

What other books were born when you were? Find a book published the year you were born. (If you can't find one, or would rather not - just pick one published in the same month as your birthday.)

It's always fun to cross another state off your "I've visited it!" list; virtually explore another one here. (If you have been to all 50 states, read about a Canadian province.)

Being happy is a wonderful goal! Find a new book to laugh with, or enjoy an old favorite.

Teamwork is often important for accomplishing big tasks. Find a book where teams, of any sort, are the key to solving problems!
