Tonight—the first moonless night of this winter—I can sense a change in Lenny, which starts, for me, with the scent of his aftershave.
It’s Aqua Velva. It’s been a long time since I’ve caught it on him, and I can get a bit tipsy just by tipping over, like, to take it in. He grips the faded armrest and gets up, with some effort, from his corner, and puts on his fingerless leather gloves, with which he can type, especially on cold nights. Then he goes out to the balcony, and I can see him fumbling for something there, in the drawers of his desk. Finally he brings back a handful of tapes—I hope none of them is mine—and the tape recorder, which he sets up across from me, on the floor next to Beethoven’s bust--

Awaken to the beauty of art

This winter it’s something new every day. Today at sunrise I find Natasha in the closet, which is crammed with dozens of her old, glamorous gowns. Having sneaked into it, she stands there wide-eyed and completely nude, shivering slightly in the morning chill.
A vein is pulsing on her breast. It’s blue, and so are the tips of her long, delicate fingers as she pulls a bunch of dresses down. Most of them slip off her arm, except for the slick, silvery dress, which she wore on her recital appearance in Paris, back in 1945, when both of us celebrated not only the victorious end of WWII but also our wedding--

This is an incredible collection of paintings, etchings and sculptures that artists have completed throughout several centuries. The artists are from at least 10 countries and include France, America, Germany, Russia, Italy and Austria to name a few. The reader will be able to see Moreau, Rembrandt, Schwebel, Picasso, Raphael and Cezanne - once again just a few of those in the book. It should be noted that I read this on the Cloud and was able to admire the collection perfectly.

Some have quotes under the art work and one that caught my attention was from a Dutch man named Dirk, Vis. The quote reads 'The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?'.

As one imagines this volume covers the story of David and Bathsheba. The paintings start with the bath of Bathsheba, David's request to bring Bathsheba to him, the adultery, Uriah and his death, Nathan's arrival and David praying.

A most rewarding book for me to look at this snowy afternoon. It was also an excellent refresher for me about the story of King David and Bathsheba.

Healing does take place....but one must ask for it.

The magic of your eyes, your kiss

She smiles, leans her head against my shoulder. For the duration of the touch, everything around us seems to vanish, even my worries. I gather her gently into my arms, holding her like a breath.
Instinctively Natasha nuzzles up to me.

This is a beguiling story of a beautiful love, war intrigues, and Alzheimer’s pain that’s both deep and humorous. You learn new things about fascinating places, long ago time, and challenges that some people must face in life from Uvi’s detailed and well researched work. At the same time, her excellent storytelling skills and well developed characters never fail to entertain.

He didn’t eat very much, she noticed. A few slices of chicken, a roll. Salad without dressing. A small portion of the eggplant that he’d probably added to his plate to be polite. Long fingers held the knife and fork. Was that the watch she’d gotten him for Christmas? Where was his wedding ring?
