Uvi Poznansky wears a coat of many colors. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain - making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children's books.

Here she joins eleven other very fine women authors whose works embellish each other while standing very much on their own. The point is, knowing Uvi’s works makes the need to read the works of her colleagues stronger. There are no disappointments in this collection. Having read Ms. Pozansky's Apart From Love (Still Live With Memories Vol. 1 and 2) and gotten involved with her characters, I wanted to read her new book, The Music of Us (Still Life With Memories Book 3). To my surprise and delight it turned out to be a prequel to that first book. Why delight? Because it not only fully explained the background of how two of those original protagonists met, it also helped me understand the reasons why the things that happened to them later on in Apart From Love occurred.

This new book is a very touching story of two young people and the joining of their souls after a circumstantial meeting and a friend playing Cyrano de Bergerac. Using her signature lyricism––poetic, poignant, yet simple and straight forward––Poznansky shares some fine descriptions of WWII: a live concert gone awry, a U.S. training camp and later on, England in ruins.

We also find out why her male lead later becomes a writer, her female lead's need to break free from her dominating mother, and the girl's father's tragic demise that foreshadows her own future. And all of this, wrapped up in the girl's musical talent, which is both precocious and stunning. A very lovely, powerful read.

I started reading this book a week or so before I went away on holiday, and after just a few pages I decided to put it aside and wait to read while away. It is that good.

We all know the story of David, the musician who became a hero by killing Goliath, but to view that event unroll through his own eyes is nothing short of magical. This was a book that I never wanted to end.

David had been promised King Saul’s daughter, Merav, if he killed Goliath. Merav is lovely and bubbly with a bust that points to the stars,’ but instead of Merav, Saul takes the opportunity to offload his other daughter, Michal, whose chest is as flat as a board. “Who on earth would want a flat-chested, grumpy Jewish princess like her?” asks David, but it’s Michal he ends up with.

Unsurprisingly, David’s imagination still conjures up visions of Merav, but her cleavage is even more revealing and her bust even riper, and so to compensate for having the flat-chested daughter dumped on him David starts sleeping around. And who can blame him?

The story finishes off with the tale of Bathsheba, who by all accounts was well fit. For those who aren’t familiar with her tale, David spotted her bathing on the roof of her apartment, flashing a bit of this and that, and …. well, I’m sure you get my drift. David’s over there in a New York heartbeat, and before you know it Bathsheba’s pregnant.

Well now, David’s in a bit of a tiz-woz because she’s actually married to one of his soldiers, Uriah the Hittite. So he’s obviously got to get rid of him. He sends him off to war with instructions to his generals that when the action hots up they’re all to leg it on out of there and leave old Uriah stranded, which they do. Uriah was a bit of a numbskull and when he was told to hold the fort on his own while they all pegged it to safety, he’s up for it.

Not for long, of course, because before you know it they’re all on him, “Uriah, ye dobber, tak' 'at ye twat, an' 'at, ye Sasanach heathen. Kick his heed in! Chop ay his heed!” and it doesn’t take long before it’s the end of old Uriah.

David gets beautiful Bathsheba, who gives birth Solomon, of all prophets.

I’ve always loved the tale of Bathsheba but trust me when I tell you that Uvi Poznansky is a master storyteller and writes her narrative much eloquently than I ever could.

All in all, this book (the first of three I believe) offers a unique insight into the early years of King David, and I absolutely loved it!

I worry about mom, about the little things, which to someone else—someone who does not know her as I do—may seem trivial, insignificant. I worry she is missing her pearl earrings. I must find them for her. The little hole in her earlobe has shrunk away, turning somehow to flesh.

This was written by one of my favorite authors, Uvi Poznansky. My Own Voice (Still Life with Memories Book 1) is another fine example of her story telling ability. It’s as if she paints the story, allowing the reader to find the lush details among the greater canvass of the world she creates. An artist inviting us in to a secret place that leaves us different once we have been there. We first meet Anita at seventeen and follow her as she makes mistakes, learns, falls, grows and questions. The author explores and illustrates the emotions that drive her characters in their decisions and relationships. This is truly a richly woven story. Highest recommendation.
