Great to have you here, Paige! You've got it right - reader, writer and dreamer - that's me!! (Helps that I'm a Pisces. We're *born* dreamers.) Growls and grins, my friend.
Damaria, you are quite lucky to have been able to self-publish and work with a publishing company as well. Many companies, especially the big ones, won't even look at someone who has self-published previously. Not sure why that is, but I'm very glad for you! Congrats!
Currently an excerpt of "Wiccan Shadows" is available here at GoodReads. Would love to hear opinions or questions, although NO SPOILERS will be provided. The first excerpt can be found at: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/2...
Hi Rick. Very happy to have you as part of this group as well. Would you like to tell us a little bit about yourself?
Greetings, Boo! Tell us a bit about yourself, if you don't mind. Are you a reader, a writer, or both? What genre interests you most?
Damaria, congrats on your self-publishing. I was never really interested in being self-published. I decided early on that I wanted a "traditional" publisher to like my work enough to offer me a contract. I expected numerous rejections, and was thrilled when the second company I submitted to offered me a three-book contract! Good luck to you in your writing endeavors.
David, thanks. Yes, I was very excited to get my first book published. I started writing stories when I was 8 years old. I'm glad you are interested in "Wiccan Shadows" and hope you enjoy it. The second book of the series: "Wiccan Moonlight" will hopefully be out by the end of the year.
Would love to know what you think!
The same thing happens to me, Damaria. I have several writers, like Laurell K. Hamilton, who are always at the top of my list. But other writers come and go in my "favorites" category. I will definitely check out your interview. Thanks for the post.
Paige, yes, editing can be quite a challenge. (Fortunately I have long hair)One of the biggest mistakes new authors often make (myself included) is to actually *over*-edit. Over-editing can remove the "magic" from your writing, leaving it flat and dull.
A suggestion that was made to me once was to put your completed work (book or story) away for at least a few months and forget about it. Move on to something else. Then, after the time has passed, look at it again. It is amazing some of the things you will discover once you see it with fresh eyes. It makes the editing process easier. Thanks for the question. Hope that helps.
