67267 Even though i liked the first half of the book, Invention of Wings got even better in the second half. I will definitely suggest it to my book group. It has a lot of potential discussion topics including "are all the women in the book in their own kind of slavery?" Of course that's said with the understanding that any white woman was not as oppressed as the Black women slaves who were treated atrociously. Monk's writing is superb.

67267 I have an ipad on which i read novels. I didn't think i would like reading digitally, but this winter was brutal and i didn't look forward to go trekking to the library every couple of weeks. I learned how to use the digital books that the library "loans" to patrons for two weeks. I fell in love with the Ovid ap.

It is not as pleasant as holding a book in my hands and i don't read non-fiction, especially ones that are important to me on the ipad, those i want to buy, highlight and make notes in and although i know i can do that on my Kindle ap, its not the same as writing in a paper page book.

67267 The Invention of Wings, a fictionalized account about Sarah Grimke and her slave Hettie, by Sue Monk Kidd. I've just started it, but am enjoying the story and her ability to add some humor - yes, in this book about slavery, she can add some humor. But she also gives the deplorable behavior that human beings can inflict on each other.

I've just started it, so i'll come back to update this comment.
