I still worry when people say they like to learn history from novels. I've learned to live with that knowledge, but I know there are a few bestselling historical novels that play a lot with history and not necessarily in a good way, and readers walk away thinking they just collected a bunch of historical facts. It's the danger, but as I said, we gotta live with it.

How firm is that contract with readers to keep to historical details? How much is too much? How much is not enough?
