Introduce Yourself (598 new)

61281 Hi, I'm Pandora.
I've introduced myself before. Just had to comment. I love my books too....all over 1,000 of them, which are all in 7 bookcases, and catalogued by Author Surname, which I call my Library!!! I'm running out of room in my small 2 bedroom apartment, but I keep buying books also and haven't read so many of them, because I tend to go to Librarys also and read their books! I just bought Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, yesterday, for $5 in a sale! It has 846 pages and is abridged! I'd hate to see how many pages the unabridged version has! I have been wanting to read this book for years...saw the old movie when I was 14, I'm now 51!
I have nearly finished my book I'm reading, which is Vanity Fair by W.M. Thackeray! So I can't wait to start on my "Cobweb" books! Some date back to the '80's! But, unlike a lot of people, when I finish reading them, I can't part with them...they're like an old friend!

61281 Oh dear! I have Sense and Sensibility on my Cobweb shelve also......among a few hundred more books. For some reason, I haven't read it either! I love Jane Austen!

61281 You're not wrong there.....I LOVE the smell of books and I have loved reading books since I was young. I thank my beautiful MOTHER (may she rest in peace) for that. She instilled the love of books into all of us (a big family) and always used to write in every book she gave us "May you too always love to wander through the realms of bookland". I love that, it's a quote from a John Donne poem. Anyway, rambling....must get back to the real world!

Hi Stef, I'm Pandora. I'm 51 and a Librarian looking for a job! I am of the "old school" too! I had fought against those things(kindles) for so long. I love my books too much...the look, the smell, the feel and the sense of accomplishment when you finish a book! But my live-in-lover bought me one not long ago. Haven't read anything on it yet...only samples, but I must admit they are handy... Have so far bought all Jane Austen books and Charles Dickens books for free....although I have them in beautiful bound editions already! Anyway I better go and finish reading my classic edition of "Vanity Fair" by W. M. Thackeray. I can't wait to start my next book!

61281 I'm glad I'm not the only "biblioholic" that keeps buying books before I read them!!! I'm guilty of that! I recently bought Volume 4 and 13 of a 14 part series for $3...too much of a bargain to go past! It's Robert Jordon, Wheel of Time series! Only 12 more books to go and I'll be ready to read that. About two years ago, someone told me about it, while talking books, and can't wait to read it...I'm off to read now!

Don't worry some of my dusty books actually are kids books. I just finished the Secret Garden and I'll be reading Through the Looking Glass this year too."

Wow, I didn't know that it was the 100th Anniversary of The Titanic sinking this year! I have a book about that, I haven't read! So, another one to add to the list!! I went back to Belfast last year and wanted to see their amazing Titanic Museum, but was not opening till this year!

61281 LOVE my classics.....I have a whole Mini Library of them....acutually mini books too! Must post a photo of them! They are so cute, but I think I would look a loony, taking out my little mini book, on the bus! Also, the print is a tiny bit too small!! Dostoevsky is one of my favourite authors....I have read "Crime and Punishment", but haven't read the other six books I have. What about "Love and War" by Tolstoy? That is one book I need to conquer also!! I'm reading another classic at the moment-"Vanity Fair" by W.M. Thackeray. Anyway, I'm feeling guilty too...being here so long.....I'm going to read!

61281 I've started off with a challenge of 15 of my "Cobweb"" books!! Following is a list and how long I've had them on my shelves....and all over the world, following me! Luckily, I'm very pedantic about writing my name in the cover and what date I bought them!!!

2. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens (1989)
3. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (1989)
4. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens (1989)
5. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (1980)

61281 Just popping in for a minute....Wow,I LOVE Arthurian books! I have had a passion for anything Arthurian! One awesome book I read years ago is "Mists of Avalon"" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I read this in hospital in 1985, when my daughter was born, who is now 26, so it's about time for another reread! Another Arthurian author is Mary Stewart. I have about eight of her books on my shelf at home, waiting to be read!!I also have "The Once and future King" by T. H. White. Oh dear.....I better go through my 1,000 books and get back to you. Probably will have a lot more!!

61281 Hello, I'm Pandora from Sydney, Australia! I have over 1,000 books on my bookshelves, that I have been meaning to read for years - but never get around to it. Life gets in the way, borrow other books from Libraries and always wander around my bookshelves, wanting to read this and that!!! At the moment I'm reading "Vanity Fair" by W. M. Thackeray. Have had this book since 1988! So, that's a real cobweb....but of course in pristine condition! Am half way through it! I never like putting a book down...even if it IS a bad one! I always have to struggle through to the end! I can think of twice in my life (I'm 51, so that's a lot of reading!!) that I have ever not finished a book. Once I physically threw it across the room it was so bad....can't even remember the name! And the other one was "Rob Roy" by Walter Scott. It was really interesting, but a labour to get through it. Can't wait to get underway in this challenge!
