58421 I'm definitely reading this at a slower pace than I read most other books. I like the author's writing style and find myself slowing down because I don't want to miss anything. I'm almost done with the next section so I'll post my future story comments to that thread.

58421 I got started late so I'm running behind, not even at page 100 yet. I like the author's writing style, the characters are well developed and the story is picking up. I'm going to double up on my "10 pages a night" pace so I can finish this one by the end of the month.

58421 I nominate The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

(Sun = Light) ;-)

Buddy read for this group, right? I think I'm jumping in on that.

58421 I finished the first seven chapters. The story is very interesting so far and the settings of Smyrna at the end of the Greco-Turkish War and Depression-Era Detroit have been fascinating. I found the parts where the Ford Company employees visited and inspected workers' homes to be disturbing - I never would have believed that would have happened but unfortunately at the rate our civil liberties are disappearing I could see it happening again in the future. The characters are richly developed. Is Lefty less complex than Desdemona, or do they just think and worry about different things? Desdemona is haunted by the secrets they keep but Lefty seems to have set their past aside.

58421 I hope you don't mind if I jump in the discussion too. I will be reading this one in May although I'm getting a late start and won't begin reading it until Sunday.

Good review Kaylee! I'm glad to hear you liked it. This is one I try to get all my friends to read, even though I know it's not the kind of book that everyone will enjoy. The author's website says he is working on a short story set in the same universe as this book, but it looks like he posted that comment a while ago and there's no recent updates....
