I, too, have something to add. I just finished the book on this week. I admit, I had to take a break while reading Book 2 and pick up something else. I need more of a storyline other than the hot and heavy sex between Ana and Christian.I didn't really like Book 1 any better than Book 2 or vice versa. I think I rated both of them a 3. I am still shocked at how popular these books are.
I think that once Ana and Christian spend more time together, her insecurities will diminish. Their relationship has moved pretty quickly and now their engaged. Yet, both of them admit that they don't really "know" each other. So...that should be interesting.
I'm looking forward to Book 3 though...in light of the way that Book 2 ended. Jack sounds like he's getting ready to bring it! LOL.
I hope that we continue with the group, Shannon.
1. No. This book portrayed a lifestyle choice of consenting adults in the dominant/submissive world. 2. No; I think that she was willing to keep an open mind b/c of her extreme attraction to Christian. But, she reached her limit! (last sex scene)
3. Because she speaks to him as no one else does, with his controlling self. Ana speaks to him as she would anyone else.
4. His wealth didn't impact my acceptance/lack of acceptance of his fetishes. I took the book for what is was...a story about the D/S lifestyle.
5. Yes...as others have said, I was an inexperienced college girl and have fallen in love with those that I wished I could change.
6. No, not the first book....
7. The writing style really bothered me. I could not understand all the hype over this book after reading it. But, as someone commented earlier, I guess it's all about the sex b/c the writing really wasn't that great. I do find myself reading the 2nd book though b/c I want to know what happens between Ana and Christian.
8. The sex scenes and the inside look into the D/S lifestyle that many don't know much about.
9. ???
Hi, Shannon. I have all Mac products (iPad, iPhone and Mac). Please let me know what you need from me. Thanks!
Hi, Shannon. Just seeing this message. This trilogy is on my list to read so I'm excited about the group choosing it to get going with the club again. I am interested in reading the books electronically. What did you have in mind,(Note, I will be celebrating my nuptials on the designated discussion dates but I'll jump back in upon my return.)
Thanks!
I would like for the group to continue. As others have said, I read The Help awhile ago and didn't participate as much with this one. I will do better the next time. :-)
I just learned of Ablene's lawsuit the other day as well. In trying to refresh my memory of the book, I've discovered that while Stockett received a lot of praise for the book, she's certainly received her share of criticism as well...entire blogs are dedicated to "debunking" this book.
I'm enjoying reading everyone's comments. I listened to the audiobook awhile ago, but I won't give anything away. Just found a website that summarizes each chapter; I'll use that to refresh my memory on where you all are. :-)My favorite characters are Minny and Aibileen; I admire Minny's spunk and Aibileen's strength.
Hilly is by far my least favorite character; Elizabeth is a close second.
I agree that Skeeter is somewhat open-minded re race; her naivete re racial issues and the social mores of those times is frustrating though.
Hi, everyone. My name is Hope (16 KO 95). I am an avid book reader and lover. I'm a member of the RAWSISTAZ bookclub, another online bookclub so this group is right up my alley. I listened to the audiobook of The Help at the end of last year or earlier this year (can't remember exactly). I look forward to chatting and possibly meeting with you all.
