I have this debate with a number of authors so would appreciate the views of readers. I use the term geezer in an affectionate not derogatory fashion because I'm a geezer in training.

I enjoy adding humor to my mysteries. It balances the tension of the crimes committed and provides an opportunity to show quirky characters with all their foibles and warts.

Laura's absolutely correct. I like to refer to older people as POWs--not prisoners of war but persons of wisdom. They have a lot to contribute. My protagonist has short-term memory loss and although he can't remember the day before, he becomes an amateur sleuth and even has a romance with a young chick in her 70s.

I enjoy putting my protagonist Paul Jacobson who is in his mid 80s in difficult situations and let him work his way out.
