Los Angeles (E! Online) – Dakota Fanning...with fangs?
It's possible. I can exclusively report that the 14-year-old child star—she turns 15 on Feb. 23—is in talks to play Jane opposite Robert Pattinson & Co. in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to box office megahit Twilight.
"There were no auditions," a source reveals. "They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations. They've been going back and forth.
Jane is a member of Italy's Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer's' best-selling series.
In the casting notice we got our hands on earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face…[and:] crimson irises." While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix "are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her," the casting notice reads.
Coincidentally (or maybe not), an online petition started by a Twilight fan already asks the studio, Summit Entertainment, to cast Fanning because she would be "perfect" for the role.
Early last month, Entertainment Weekly suggested Pushing Daisies star and Broadway diva Kristin Chenoweth. "Her voice is certainly high enough, and at 4'11'', she's also short enough," writer Amy Wilkinson proposed.
Director Chris Weitz is expected to start shooting New Moon in March in the U.S. and Italy. If all goes as planned, the movie will hit theaters on Nov. 20.
Is Fanning right for Jane? We're sure Twilight fans have plenty to say about it.

OK... so I'm still trying to not imagine Dakota Fanning as a 7 year-old little girl... this will take some time. But I think she might just have the ability to be a very very very mean little girl. I guess we'll see how this plays out. ♥ *~*char*~*

It's mostly Yvonne and Mahlet's fault that I started commenting on these things. They just crack me up! That and I have an innate sense of digging information out to share with the masses of Twilight fans! :)
Hello all! My name is Charlotte, usually called Charlie or Char... but honestly I'll answer to pretty much anything. I've been meaning to introduce myself for sometime but I kept getting distracted by the other threads! I am a bookworm through and through. Literature is a thing of beauty. As I've stated in previous threads, nothing can compare to a well written story and a lush imagination. My biggest future hope would be that I can go back to school and get that English Degree that I've always wanted and get paid to surround myself with words. I'm in love with Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Twilight (obviously) and Edgar Allen Poe. I have a story posted on here that I just started writing recently, but it is definately in it's beginning stages. I would appreciate any criticism you might have for it, if you would like to take a look. :)

I am that person that picked up Twilight when it first came out and almost got it everytime, but for some reason it always made it's way back to the shelf. Well, I decided to read the saga in October and by george!, I devoured them in less than a week. I then proceeded to kick myself repeatedly because I didn't get into this series when I first started picking up and contemplating Twilight. I have since read the entire set a second time and had to stop myself from going in for a third time in less than a month. It was kind of a surreal experience for me to have an author write like I would and a character that would say so many things that I would say. That probably doesn't make sense, but that was honestly how I felt when I was reading the books.
I have also infected my loved ones with the bug and have gone so far as to purchase copies of the book, thrust it at my unsuspecting friends and family, and insist that they read so I had someone to talk to. Last count of infection: 8. I even convinced one of my dearest male friends to indulge me and read the books, mainly because I wanted to hear a male perspective and have someone that wouldn't fight me for Edward. lol!
Thanks to my interest in the Twilight Saga (ok... obsession), I now start my days with checking my email, myspace, & facebooks accounts... follwed by my GoodReads account, hisgoldeneyes.com, and stepheniemeyer.com for more info. It's insanity!
Ok guys... This just in from Stephenie Meyer's Website (www.stepheniemeyer.com) "Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

Taylor Lautner will be Jacob Black! :)
I completely agree with your husband on the Dumbledore thing! Yes... it was unavoidable but it has always been one of my issues since I'm also a Hogwarts girl. :D But changing someone mid-epic-ness (I just created a new word) creates an unneeded confusion... everyone is pretty much used to seeing Lautner as Jacob.
LOL! That is true... everything seems to be moving at hyper speed for them. I mean... I want to see what they do with New Moon as much as the next man... but I would appreciate a bit of care taken to make sure that they are doing justice to the story. I mean... people care about these characters! And I'll totally sign your letter!
Julie and Mahlet... You both are not helping with my concentration at work! lol! I think what bugs me the most about them possibly recasting Jacob is that THEY SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT TO BEGIN WITH! I love Taylor Lautner as Jacob, he's become the movie version of our furry friend. And continuity wise... how messed up would it be if they shifted just when his story was going forward?
It's so funny that you say that Emina, because I totally understood that Bella thought he didn't want her anymore... it was so heartbreaking to come to that realization with her... even if it was the wrong assumption. It really didn't help that he didn't tell her that he was protecting her. Granted, that would have made leaving a moot point as she wouldn't have let him, but he TOLD her that he didn't want her anymore. When a girl thinks she's getting more than she could ever want from someone who she thinks is way out of her leauge... of course she's going to think that she's finally lost her grasp on him and he's moving on to something shiny and new. Sad... but it's where your head goes.
As a former English student, I took a class that was completely about the filmed novel. We read novels and novellas and watched the corresponding films created to interpret the novels. Since that class, I've grown to appreciate the two different art forms (novels and films) and to take them as separate entities. That said, I loved the movie interpretation of Twilight, the saga that has made it onto my list of favorite books. Nothing, nothing can compare to the emotions that run through your body when you are reading Stephenie Meyer's words... but Melissa Rosenberg did an exceptional job transferring the basic emotions and storyline to the film. Rob Pattinson's portrayal of our Edward was priceless, and I really don't think that there could be another actor who could have done the job. I just hope that the fan adoration (or the abomination in some people's case)won't drive him thoroughly bonkers. Poor guy. :) I was happy with the casting, Kristen Stewart's Bella was relatable and cute, The Cullens were hot.... :), the classmates were fun, and I hope that Taylor Lautner (Jacob) will have a significant growth spurt (at least muscle-wise) to keep his pretty smile as the film representation of Jacob. I will now confess to seeing the movie 4 times, mainly because I needed a fix. I told my friends that it was like when I started reading the books, the pages were laced with heroine and I couldn't stop going back for another hit. There are so many scenes in the book that I wished were present in the film, but I also know it can be difficult to successfully execute a scene without mangling it beyond recognition.
Scene favorites? Well, it was fun to see Stephenie in her little cameo. She discusses in interviews her visits to the set during filming and inevitably, if she loved the movie it's kind of hard to argue. Even though this makes me a huge goober, the tight shots of Edward, where you could see his emotions flash across his face, were my favorite. When he first makes his appearance in the cafeteria... the smirk always got giggles from the audience. When he rattles off answers at the restaurant (including "to get to the other side..."), when he stands at the door of his room and looks sheepish, and especially when he leans in for the kiss and says "Don't move."... are all included in my ideas of favorite scenes. But... as I stated earlier, I do have an addiction. If anything, I think the movie has served it's purpose to the literary audience by giving people a taste of the story. Everyone I know who hasn't read the books now is, at the very least, considering picking them up. I'd share... but I've just read them all again. I've convinced my sisters and most of my best friends to read the books. One of my friends was adorable, she watched the movie first, picked up the book, then we went to watch it again.
So... to put an end to my endless ranting, I think it's safe to say that I love the movie. I've accepted that there will be a variance in the story when it is up for film translation. I mean, really, what can compete with a good book and a vivid imagination?
