I am a huge King fan. I have a picture of myself standing in front of his house in a totally non-stalker sort of way. I enjoyed the Twilight books, but they are not great literature. They are nice, easy reads. I am probably going to be flogged for my opinion here. The characters are OK, Bella ticked me off on a regular basis, Edward was a little too perfect in my opinion. It was like a teen girl fantasy come to life. It is better than most of the drivel out there, from my youth, Sweet Valley High and the like. King will be seen as the Dickens of our lifetime. Our great grandchildren will be reading his work in high school and college. I am not saying that Twilight won't be around, but it won't be taught in school.
I think that most of the rush is that vampires don't age! They need to get it done while everyone looks good. If you wait a year or two between movies, it will look strange. Think of Harry Potter when they took a year off and the kids shot up.
