The Fighting SonExcerpt from Chapter 11: Most Terrifying Moment
Upon gaining entry into the house, Rod called out for Sue. The return for his calling out was a loud guttural growl that reverberated through the house. The sound came at Rod from several directions and Rod went searching for Sue. As Rod approached the stairs, Rod could hear Sue calling to Rod in a weak voice.
Entering their bedroom, Sue was on the bed trying to catch her breath from the last pang of an urgent contraction.
Sue shouted, “THE BABY IS COMING” with an urgent tone in her voice.
Trying to remain calm, he said, “We need to get you to the hospital.”
“NO, THE BABY IS COMING RIGHT NOW!” she hysterically stated.
This news left Rod frozen in the moment, not knowing what to do. Rod had jumped out of low-flying airplanes, faced enemy combatants with guns, and encountered evil characters from another dimension, but never felt so helpless as he did in that moment.

Rod slowly obliged and stretched his right hand to his left hip, acting like he was gripping the handle of a sword and then pulled as if it was sliding from the sheath. As his hand turned upward, the sword itself emerged in Rod’s hand. He almost dropped it in shock.
The gold and polished steel glimmered in the midafternoon sun. Rod gawked at it in amazement. He had never seen the beauty of the blade before, except through the tainted light of the other realms. In the light of day, it was absolutely glorious in appearance.
