I have to admit to being a little OCD. My books I have read are all arranged alphabetically except for the hardback ones which are a bit bigger so dont fit on the other shelves that are set to maximise space! Though that only accounts for 700 of my books . .the other 100 that i'm waiting to read are in boxes under my bed! Update - having moved house last year I have 4 complete bookcases (8 shelves each) of paperback fiction, mainly sci-fi and fantasy, and I also have a bookcase for hardback. Totals about a 1000ish. In addition 4 boxes of books still to read, about 120 of them!
The only Scaramanga I can recall is from James Bond by Ian Fleming. Not sure which novel though. Is this good enough for an answer? If so my next character is: John Carter
I'm such a compulsive reader that I will read whenever I can find time. Even to the point that I read whilst walking to work. My workmates can't understand how I can manage to read and not walk into lampposts and trees but somehow I manage it. At the moment, my life is so busy and hectic that the train and walk to work is the only time I get to read.Another thing that's not so much a quirk, but my mates can't seem to understand, is if I buy a book and I haven't read the one that came out before, then I will have to put it to one side till I've read the previous. Sort of have to read the series in sequence and not jump around.
I mainly read one book at a time, however I have found some books particularly hard to get into at which point I decide 'hold on . .not getting anywhere with this, lets try something else'. Two such books i've found this with were Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Gloriana by Michael Moorcock. I have never left a book completely, I will always go back to it to finish.
At the moment I have 3 small stacks to read, and 2 boxes! The ones in the boxes are the sequels that I don't have the first ones to yet, every few months go on a binge book buy. For the last 2 years the amount 'to read' hasn't really dropped below 100!!
