39537 Thanks Cindy for this interesting discussion and good information. We haven't yet joined a new mother daughter book club in our new city, but today I am off to the library with a list of titles from the books you reviewed on your website. I'll get some good books we can both read and talk about together! That would make us the world's smallest mother daughter book club! But seriously I miss reading with her now that we've moved. Take care and thanks again.

39537 Hi again,
This is an interesting point and brings up one the most important benefits of Mother Daughter book clubs for me... developing a circle of women who are there for one another far beyond the book discussion.

I find in today's world - where families are far flung and people lead stressful busy lives - the importance of being part of a circle of women is a wonderful thing. Especially for the moms, as you get to know each other over dinner and during discussions, you bond and connect with each other.

When someone in the group is having a rough time in life, it is good to know you can turn to each other... sometimes those friendships are hard to find and to nurture without some kind of structure as we all go running around in different directions. Book club meetings provide that structure for the magic of friendship to develop.
39537 A shout out for The Cardturner.... my daughter and I read it for Mother-Daughter Book Club and then my husband, my son and two friends staying with us all read it and enjoyed it too. Some books can appeal to lots of different groups of readers.

39537 My favorite book related activity was the summer long scavenger hunt we did after reading Remember Me to Harold Square - I think you talk about it in your book. It brought us all closer together.

And by the way, as a former member of your group, now living across the country, I just want to say that the meeting at the diner sure sounds like it was FUN! Wish we could have been there!

And as far as meeting with authors, it really is a wonderful experience, especially for the girls. It can bring a book to life, and also put a face to the amazing art of writing.

39537 I enjoyed the range of books that came out of Mother-Daughter pairs chosing together in our group. And because each pair is different, we ended up reading books we never would have been drawn to on our own. We usually enjoyed having our comfort zone stretched!
