I find myself wondering, how do you folks out there express or repress your anger? Are you a punch-a-pillow-type? Or a silent seether?

I should also mention: memoir is a personal journey, so I try to keep the focus on my own faults and failings. I always aim to be more critical of myself than of any other people who find themselves in my stories.

In the first draft of my memoirs, I try my damndest to write as though it's for my eyes alone. I live in denial of the fact that anyone will ever read it--that includes my husband, my parents, even my editor. In the beginning, it's important to be uninhibited. Anyone can write memoir, but not everyone is frank enough. You can always go back in subsequent drafts and change people's names and "identifying characteristics." Likewise, you can also cut out things that are irrelevant or a bit of an overshare.

Hi everyone. Thank you for joining my Q&A. This thread is devoted to questions and comments regarding the writing process (particularly memoir-writing). Post your questions here and I'll respond to them first thing.
