Lowlife by Simon Eddisbury- the story of an English university student who went to prison for a crime he committed and spent his sentence investigating the lives of the other criminals he met. It's a really intriguing book I've got to say- some of the people he meets are bizarre. There's all types of sick people like a cannibal who cooked somebody's flesh in garlic and ate it, a guy who tortured people for their money during home invasions and an arms dealer who sells machine guns and hand grenades but then there's some eccentric, odd people too like a Buddhist armed robber, a gypsy who grew up in a caravan eating hedgehogs to survive (I'm not making it up), a smuggler who sees himself as a modern day pirate and an openly gay Jamaican drug dealer. Very strange but interesting book.
