Deception was a key element in the development of my character Kline. The shadow of mystery that surrounds him is essential to his role. However it is his ability to deceive that plays such an important role in his interactions with everyone else including the President himself.Deception is a part of life everyone seeks to deceive in some small way or another. But when it is applied to a character like Kline it is an evil kind of deception. With intent of doing harm or injury to someone or something. In this case the United States . And for what, to only further his upward movement in the goverment, and financial gain.
But we see this everyday in the news, powerful people, and a win at all costs attitude. Writing for this type of character doesn't require a lot of plot. Just ask yourself what is the easiest way to reach that characters next goal, and do it. He would, because this type of character is so self centered that he don't worry about consequence's. Once powerful enough they become invincible, or at least think so.Shadow War
Recently an author {whose name I will not dignify here} threatened to burn the most holy book of the Islamic faith. This was as far as I could see nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at promoting his book. That said, who on earth would consider such an inflammatory act as being a Christian act? What does this say to the people of the Islamic faith? More so what does this say about Christians?I can only hope that people of the Islamic faith realize this man has twisted his idea of Christianity into a rant that became a book. That and in order to sell more books he decided to take this path. But this was not what Christianity is about. This is a greedy man with a prejudicial hatred for a people he has no understanding of. He preaches two things intolerance and hatred.
Perhaps I have to much integrity to lower myself to a stunt to sell books. But I have my honor and would never impugn my honor just to sell a book. I hope that the rest of you can see this fraud for what he is.
Hate and intolerance will always be a part of discrimination. If we really need to discriminate lets do it though books sales, starting with leaving his book on the shelf as a dust catcher.
Terrorism is not a new subject to writing. It has been a underlying subject for centuries. Consider the Barbary Pirates, or for that matter 18th century pirates and privateers. The 21st century has brought with it dozens of extremist groups whose claim to fame is attacks against the innocent. Fiction in this case mirrors life in that any attack anywhere is possible. And that the only variable is how much damage or loss of life. That said consider all the possibility's, nuclear, chemical, biological, technical conventional weapons, improvised weapons, Hijacking, and hostage situations. The subject abounds with possibility's, and a pit fall. That being could the story line of a book, say Shadow War be used as a actual plan? In part perhaps, this was something I thought about many times as I wrote Shadow War. And because of the method even more as I work on SWII Deadly Contact.
However there is an upside to it as well. Could it be educational to the public to have such thoughts put forward. Could it not make people think twice before taking that common item for granted. When a car bomb attempt was made in New York city recently it was a sharp eyed bystander who alerted police. This is what I hope these books can do. If nothing else I hope that after reading such novels people start to think twice.
Many times since Shadow War came out I have been ask about some of the main characters. Did I base them on real people ect.? All characters are fictional though some have the names of a dear friends. Others such as Mitch Fox,Doc,Wigman, Winchester and even the President elect are based roughly on real peoples characteristics. Lofton for example is roughly based on My Uncle John. Knowing how that person will act or react brings a certain life to the fictional character.
I have also been ask about Jim Kelley, and close friends know Kelley was based on my own personality. He is no nonsense, plain spoken, and quick to action. Mostly he is honest, and feels duty bound in his actions. And like myself would prefer to be fly fishing a quite stream over just about anything city life might offer.
The story moves kind of slow the first few chapters to introduce the characters and let the reader know what they are all about. I think it helps to understand the characters before you get into the meat of the story.
And for those who enjoyed Shadow War you will be happy to know almost all the team characters return in SWII, Deadly Contact. {post your questions about any of the characters I will be happy to follow up on anything you ask}

I am just wondering why the sudden interest in the book in the United Kingdom. Was there a review I am unaware of or what???
I am currently working on the first revision and edit of the second Shadow War book. I am hopeful to be finished by the holidays.
Threats to the US range from financial, to military and everything in between in so far as targets go. Conventional weapons and hijackings to NBC{nuclear, biological, and chemical}. With this in mind I ask can we really secure our city's from the threat of a catastrophic attack?
Could the threat of a nuclear attack or even a dirty bomb really be pulled off inside the US

Tom Clancy's Sum of all fears depicted a attack on a metropolitan area using a Dirty Bomb. Could this happen, absolutely. Is it feasible to think a that terror cell could access the information needed to construct such a device? Yes I believe they could.
In the book Shadow War the Wind Walker team plays a vital role in suppression of terrorist threats before they reach the US shores. Is such a covert group needed in reality today?
