9. She should have approached the subject a little differently. A text can be misconstrued. She should have waited until they got together and had it face to face. It would have went much smoother.
10. I think that eventually they would have reached out to one another. Their attraction was so strong that they couldn't bury it for too long. If I felt that way about someone I would definitely call.
11. I believe that he will end things with her because he doesn't want it to end like the others. He is so use to the short stints that he thinks that this relationship will be the same.
12. I would have had the conversation with him. They are spending every weekend together and communicating with each other daily. I would need to know something about what's going on.
13. I believe that they defend them because they don't want them to be viewed that way or have that title. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't refer to them so they are not offended and don't believe that you should be either.

5. My favorite scene is the first time that they become intimate. They connected with each other. I know as a full figured woman myself that sometimes we become insecure about our bodies. Drew made her very comfortable and I liked that a lot.
6. I like Drew. He hid something because he didn't want to be seen as the bad guy and didn't want to go into a deep discussion about what happened with Molly. I believe that he is compassionate and sweet and that is shown through his actions with Alexa and Jack.
7. ALL THE TIME! We sometimes read too much into text messages and it also depends on our moods at the time of delivery. I am often off base when interpreting messages through text.
8. I identify with Alexa because I am a curvy African American woman and I share a lot of her thoughts and beliefs that are shared in this story.

1. I actually picked up this book because it was one of Target's diverse books of the month. I never got around to reading it until now.
2. I would have never done the things that Alexa or Drew did in that elevator. I would have sparked conversation but to go that far...no. I noticed that she was very open with Drew but she she was very withdrawn with Olivia. She lets Olivia overpower her.
3. I believe it is important to add these topics because it is what today's single people have to deal with. We are more accepting now but the thoughts still linger in the back of our minds about acceptance.
4. I don't know what Amy's angle is yet. Im still confused. I believe that Molly is uncomfortable but at the same time is accepting of him being there because of his relationship with Josh plus she doesn't want to be seen as the upset ex since she is getting married.

17. I thought that she was given a fair child. They tried to paint her out to be some horrible person but her lawyer fought back just as hard.
18. I felt that she was very knowledgeable of nature and it helped her with her understanding of people. She lived her entire life in the marsh so she knew a lot about its inhabitants.
19. I believe that the verdict was just in regards to the trial and the arguments from both sides. She realized through the trial just how the town felt about her but she also saw those who really loved her as well who testified on her behalf. I believe that she was grateful for them.
20. I was happy because he truly understood her and truly loved her. He was afraid in the beginning and she had to come to the realization that she loved him to and forgive him.
21. I was not surprised that he found it or of what it uncovered. Kya was hurt and she was also self reliant so she had to take care of Chase and preserve herself. She did a wonderful job! She also protected Tate from it too.
22. I did enjoy this book very much. It was slow in the beginning but made up for it as the story progressed. I would have never chosen this book as a read so Im glad NBRC introduced me to it.

11. I think that it was a pleasant surprise when she became able to support herself. She had been through so much and really had nothing to account for it. I was very happy to see her with her own.
12. I knew that he would resurface to try to convince her that it had to happen the way it did. I did not know that he was going to force himself on her.
13. Mental illness is real. She probably was pushed to the point of not knowing what she was doing and being out of her mind. Abuse sometimes drive some feelings and actions of people if it goes on long enough. I want to believe that she would have come back for her kids but I'm not totally convinced.
14. Yes. When you feel like your power is taken away, you feel lost. That is what happened with her mother dealing with her father and now Kya dealing with Chase.
15. It is her against them. She has always been looked down on and it will continue with this trial. It is how our society is now...well at least where I live. Someone committing a crime on the northside is seen differently than someone who commits a crime on the southside.
16. I'm not certain how this will end. I hope that Tate steps in and help her like he has done her entire life.

6. I still believe that the story is moving very slow but I'm halfway in now. I believe that it will get better but its just a slow buildup.
7. There are many sayings when it comes to animals. Animal lovers are very common and it doesn't drive my opinion of them either way. I personally am not an animal lover but know plenty who can be nice and mean.
8. No. A mother is a mother. I know that things make us uncomfortable and we don't always get to live out our dreams but we are still expected to be mothers. No excuse for walking out and leaving them behind.
9.I think that Kya has finally realized the truth about Chase and his lack of love for her. I believe that her anger overcame her and she murdered him. She knows the marsh enough to kill him and leave no evidence.
10. I believe that Tate will resurface. He will miss her and come back. I think that we have seen the last of her family. It has been so long and I don't think that they will be coming back.

1. NBRC pushed me to read this book in my effort to be more active in this group. I have not read any this author's books as this is my first time hearing of her.
2. She is very descriptive of the marsh. It makes me think that she grew up in that kind of area. I do believe that it plays a very important part in the story.
3. I could never imagine being able not to read. It opens so many doors and to be robbed with that would be horrific. She is alone but not totally alone because Pa is there. Jodie knew that and would rather leave her with Pa than have to drag him around. I'm sure Jodie had no destination in mind but just wanted to get away. I think that the different town people think that something isn't right and that is why they try to help her. I don't believe that her dad is coming back. The letter really jolted him and I think that has no intentions on returning to Kya and that shack.
4. I don't think that this is an unfair characterization of our society. We do seem to look down on those who are not on the same level or not in the same place as us. There are a few of us that help those who need help but that is heavily outweighed by gender, class and race discrimination. We as a society need to be more like the people of Coloured Town.
5. I believe that Kya is the one mentioned that lives in the marsh. I believe that she knows what happened or maybe she could even be the killer.

14. I thought that it was going to be tragic for Sadie. I'm glad that we don't know exactly what happened because I didn't want anything bad to happen to her.
15. It never crossed my mind that Sadie sent the postcard. I would think that she sent it to ease Mattie's mind. It would let her think that Claire was missing her just like she was missing Claire and to let her know that Claire was fine. I don't believe that it was going to drive Mattie into searching for her.
16. I knew that she was going to kill him. She had been amping herself up throughout the entire book. It was just tracking him down that took it so long. I do believe that he deserved it but she should have put his fate into the hands of the law.
17. I never believed that she hated Sadie. It was just difficult for her because of her struggles with drug abuse. Once she cleaned herself up, we were made clear of the love Claire had for Sadie.
18. I don't like it because I would like to know how Sadie's life is after defending Mattie after death but I also like it because nothing bad happens to her as far as we know.

9. I think that the moment between Claire and Sadie was more for Claire. I believe that she loved Sadie but didn't know how to show it because of all that Sadie had seen with Claire. Sadie saw it all...the drugs, the different men and Claire didn't know how to erase that and fix it. She knew that May Beth "mothered" Sadie and that was why she made the comment of "I made you."
10. I believe that Sadie saw herself in Cat. A girl alone trying to make it on her own. That is why she was so forthcoming with all that information about her name and about Mattie.
11. I found it interesting about Silas being arrested but no clue of how he was found out. It could have been Javi. It would be nice to know exactly what happened with that.
12. I think that Ellis wants to believe Sadie but its hard to believe because of the Darren that he knows that has done these great things. I would not be surprised if Ellis did tip Darren off.
13. Sadie will hurt Keith once she finds him. This is all build up to that time. She is telling herself and encouraging herself when she says that she is dangerous. She genuinely wants to believe that and that is why she keeps saying it. She will be ready when she sees him because she'll be convinced that she's dangerous and she'll think about all the things that he has done.

5. I think this is the life that not only teenagers live but a lot of people who use social media as an outlet. We highlight only the good things happening around us and to those who are young as well as those individuals who blur the line between reality and fiction become confused. We see their lives as perfect when in actuality they have the same struggles that we do but just don't post it on social media which makes their lives appear perfect.
6. I went off the deep end and thought that it was a spot that Silas and Darren used to communicate. I don't know why I would assume that Darren was in hiding...lol...but that is what I thought. As we know, I was wrong.
7. I was not surprised that she called Javi at all. I believe that she viewed him as her way in with the Baker children as well as a social outlet. Javi really like Sadie and didn't answer so he could get to know her and not have Noah know because I'm sure something was said when they parted ways the previous night.
8. I'm at a complete loss because whatever it is will affect Sadie. I'm interested in finding out what it is though.

1. Before starting, I thought that it was another contemporary YA novel with the typical lead female character. I was so wrong! The story pulled me in from the beginning.
2. I am listening to the book as well and LOVE the way that it is set up. It is performed as if it is truly a podcast. That pulls me in even more.
3. I agree with the podcast narrator that girls do go missing on the regular. That is something that is very prevalent in the world that we live in. Some of the stories do stand out more than others but it is such a regular occurrence.
4. Not only does the book focus on the treatment that she receives but it also shines the light on the fact that she perseveres through that. Yes, she is sometimes bashful when it comes to speaking but she still sets out to do what she has her mind settled on. She is a very strong character and the stutter adds to that.
