my library also reduced the loan time from 21 to 14 days, so I feel like I'm always rushing to finish the books I have on loan.

I'd love it i more American libraries accepted members from abroad

I can't be the only one LOL

I'm trying to add a book to the spreadsheet, but it seems I don't have permission anymore

I've been having some bad luck in choosing books in the last couple of days.

It was an okay read, but a bit confusing toward the end... I preferred the first book in his Greatcoats series.
Now to find my next book

I get what you're saying, but I also think that transport spells would make things too easy for the main characters, and thay is never the goal for an author.
16. We keep being reminded (by the narrator) that the wanderists are not good guys. Do you agree with this assessment?
I don't think they're good, but I don't think they're evil either. They're trying to survive in this world, which seems pretty rough.
17. What is your impression of the seven brothers? The Pandorals are benevolent? Really? Do we believe that?
The brothers are creepy, and the Pandorals being benevolent would make things too easy.
18. So. We get to see the apparatus. What would you have done with that temptation?
I honestly don't know. I think I'd walk away, but who knows?
19. Is anyone who they say they are? Did you expect Mr. Bones?
Nope, and heck no.

That did surprise me. I was not expecting Fidick to be that cunning and memorize the ritual and go for a bargain with Tenebrus (not to mention how it went against everything he was taught)
7.) We learn about more magic types and there's pretty much any type of magic you can dream up. What type of magic you like to have or what animal would you like an affinity with?
Hm... I think I'd enjoy being a fire or weather mage.
8.) Is anyone else's favorite character Mr. Bones? Just me? mkay.
He has not yet endeared himself to me. There is potential, yes, but I'm going to need more from him.
9.) At this point I think it's clear Cade is a fallen Glorian of some sort, likely a Justicar. Do others agree with my guess here or do you have other thoughts?
I could see that, but, at the same time, I worry that it might be too obvious.
10.) Assuming my guess in Q9 is right, why do you think Cade got the heave ho from the Glorians?
I think he was found lacking somehow, and didn't conform to what was expected of a Glorian.

and it works for the mini! ETA: no, it doesn't

1. The book has the MPG Dark Fantasy. Do you like this genre in general? If so, do you have any favourite authors or books?
It's not a genre I actively seek out, but as I read a lot of fantasy, sometimes I stumble upon a Dark Fantasy book that peaks my interest. A standout name is Jay Kristoff, and I really enjoyed his Empire of The Vampire. Its sequel, Empire Of The Damned, was not exactly a worthy sequel in my opinion, but I thought it was passably good. (view spoiler) .
Picture a wizard. Go ahead, close your eyes. There he is, see? Skinny old guy with a long straggly beard. No doubt he's wearing iridescent silk robes that couldn't protect his frail body from a light breeze. The hat's a must, too, right? Big, floppy thing, covered in esoteric symbols that would instantly show every other mage where this one gets his magic?
2. The book starts with the quote above. Is this your mental image of a wizard, too? Or something different? :)
Whenever I think of a wizard, my mind jumps to Ian McKellen's Gandalf, so I guess it kinda matches the quote.
3. And the author lands us in the middle of a siege (ideal for the Book Games, right? ;) with 2 of the main characters Cade Ombra and Corrigan Blight. Cade is narrating what is happening and offering us his views on good and evil, the part they are playing and how they "win" this particular siege.
Do you think it's a strong start to the book? Has it got you intrigued?
This style can be a bit jarring, I think, and I can take a couple of pages to really get into it. It can feel like Cade's interrupting the story itself a bit too much, but, later on, I find this kinda endearing.
4. As an extra incentive & entertainment, the Ascendant Lucien offers young girls and boys (sublimes) to the wanderists after the siege. We get introduced to Fiddick and Galass and learn that Cade decided to kill Lucien. We can actually start putting some pieces of Cade's character together. What do you think about him at this point?
I think he's my favorite type of character so far: morally grey. He might not be outright evil, but he does seem to be self-serving, rather than selfless. He does not seem to be the type who sacrifices himself for the greater good just because it's needed. He might do it, but he'll take his time considering whether or not he should do it.
5. Some demonic highlights to this introductory part: Tenebris the demon, with whom Cade as an "infernalist" mage trades with to get his spells.
What were your impressions of Tenebris? How do you find the "religious/magical" system of the Infernals and the Celestines?
I really think there is a lot of potential in the dynamic between Cade and Tenebris, and Tenebris hinted at some things that I really want to see more of in the book. I found the religious system reminded me a bit of the Middle Ages, with the whole "if you're not good, then you're evil and must burn" mentality off the Inquisition, but, at the same time, the institution of the Church was kind of rotten at the core (why, yes, my family is Protestant, why do you ask?)

now we're talking LOL
chocolate chip

1. Favorite fruit? Eh... I like apple pie, does that count? Or a peach cobbler? I'm a mood fruit eater: sometimes, I'm all about bananas, then I move on to peaches, then on to something else.
2. Favorite vegetable? I don't really do vegetables. Unless carrot cake counts?
3. Favorite grain/seed? They are horse/bird food. No seeds for me. As for grains, I'm going with risotto.
4. Favorite flower? Tulips, and I really dislike living in a country where I can't grow them.
5. Favorite tree? Bonsai trees
6. Favorite animal? Foxes
7. Favorite nut? Cashew nuts.
8. Do you enjoy gardening? Nope.
I'm a very "nature! it's all over me! get it off" person.

I'm Tati (she/her) from Brazil! My job should be more hectic than normal in the net two months, so I'll deinitely decompress by reading (I'm a pricing officer for a medical equipment manufacturer, and we have a big fair coming up in two weeks in then June is end of quarter. In other other words, madness and mayhem.
But let's talk about books, which is way more fun.
I have read the 3 HG books, have not read the prequel, and am not sure I will. I gave up on the movies after the second one.
I read mostly fantasy and romance (and romantasy as well), with some historical fiction, sci-fi and non-fiction sprinkled here and there. I will not touch horror books, I'm too squeamish for them. I'm also not overly fond of mysteries in general, nor thrillers. Come to think of it, I steer clear of stressful books LOL.
My challenge shelf is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I think I skipped Cutthroat because I was not at a good reading place when it happened, but I kinda regret it

They are one of the best snacks. And ingredients in savory and sweet dishes."
Raisins/sultanas cause some trouble during Christmas in Brazil LOL. They tend to crop up everywhere (and I do mean everywhere, even in rice), and they're very much a love or hate thing. Lines are drawn, that's for sure LOL

What's everyone's favorite Thanksgiving side dish? And if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, what's..."
the beautiful thing with "maionese" is that there are so many possibilities. At my house, we sometimes put heart of palm, sun dried tomatoes...
