I'm not sure how to sent it over so will you do that part of it?"
Excellent find Robin - I haven't read it, but it looks good and I think it will force them to use more than three letters!

I'm willing to read Looking for Jane if no one else has any ideas....although I may have already signed up for a battle book (if Char does..."
You've read Looking for Jane, Bernadette? and recommend it? That's good news! I haven't read anything by this author before but it looked like it could be good. With your encouraging words, I have requested it from my library - it looks like something my mom might like too and I'll be seeing her soon so I'll be able to show it to her.

I'm willing to read Looking for Jane if no one else has any ideas....although I may have already signed up for a battle book (if Char doesn't want it) so someone without a book feel free to call dibs.

I am now off work --- woohoo!! About to watch a movie and..."
In message 702, Saar said she was willing to read the physics book...it seems like it would be safe to submit that one if she doesn't answer soon.

LOL - I think that possibility had occurred to me early on, but it wasn't mentioned in the rules for the Battles so I forgot about it. But it makes it much easier on us as we no longer need to try to understand that clause. Now all the CSI books and CS Lewis books are out. That does leave the Sic Semper ones if we want to try to limit to four overlap letters, but I don't know if anyone would want to read one of those....

I'm not sure what the impact is of using our supply drop🤷🏻♀️
Robi..."
Bernadette, didn't you think we'd just have to match CS if we used our second supply drop book to cover the I? That's what I thought you said above and what I came to think was correct for how supply books are used after reading and re-reading the rules.... I'm getting confused again (or have always been confused)! :)
Although now that I read the rules yet again, it looks like we'd need to read both the supply book (in this case it is I Hope This Finds You Well as well as our battle book? I hadn't realized that last night...
Maybe we should have Saar read her Physics book, take the hit with 7 letters, and just let the 5 points we might get for achieving the lowest score go - we'd have an easier time matching books the rest of the week and probably enjoy the books on our list more. LOL

"CSI" books:v again not an exhaustive list, but a place to start
CSI: Moments from a Career in Forensic Science
CSI Miami: Heat Wave
CSI Told You Lies
CSI: Cat Sleuth Investigation
999 CSI: Blood, Threats and Fears - not sure how the numbers at beginning of title would be treated re: rules of this battle competition
The C.S.I. Effect
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
CSI: Crime Scene Ireland: Shocking Stories From the Underworld

Books about CS Lewis - this is not an exhaustive list, but a place to start:
C. S. Lewis: A Life: Eccentric Genius, Reluctant Prophet
C.S. Lewis: A Life Inspired
C. S. Lewis: A Life
C.S. Lewis: Mere Christian
C.S. Lewis: Master StorytellerC.S. Lewis Called Him Master
C.S. Lewis: A Biography
C.S. Lewis: A Biography
If any of these jump out at anyone as being interesting to read, please comment! (I'm not interested in any of these myself)

It is kind of complicated, isn't it? One of the things I had trouble understanding at first was that while you have to overlap 3 letters and can do more, it is advantageous to only overlap 3 letters. You get a point for each letter you overlap and the scoring system works like golf - the lower the score the better. At first I thought more letters was better...
On the other hand, the winner between us (based on that score of overlapping letters) gets only 5 extra points (we get 5 points for each book we read - which in theory will be 10 books or 50 points for just doing the battle round reading) so it's not that much in the end. And while it is fun to look for the esoteric prompt that helps us to win in that regard, it is probably good to keep in mind that it's not worth reading something we'd hate in order to win....

It appears that they are listed on GR with CSI being the series name instead of the title.
For example:

I think you are understanding - the first one you listed wouldn't work because it's the series name and not the title that starts with CSI. But book titles that start with CSI would work. I saw a few "CSI Miami:" that could work, although make it really easy for them to follow with just three letters as there's got to be lots that start with "ami". But I also found some non-fiction stuff that starts with CSI that could work.might be more challenging for them.
I'm stuck doing some chores right now, but I was going to assemble a list before morning so that the people who are sleeping right now might have a nice list to jump off from.
Please continue to list anything you find too! I remember in your intro post you said you like the search to find a book that meets a prompt - me too - which makes this battle round kind of fun.

Is it something you'd want to read next week? (I don't think I would....)
If it is, it might be worth having Erin check in the captain's group to see if it is a viable option (and what the last three letters of the title actually is, in their opinion).
In the meantime we can still research other options (using four letters SICS) or using a supply drop like Bernadette suggested and then (if I'm understanding correctly) we'd just need to match the first two letters (CS)....she suggested books starting with CSI which is very viable...I've also found a couple that start with CS Lewis that I think could work if anyone was interested in reading about him.

If you're willing to read it next week for the battle, that would be a great find for us! But I would understand if you didn't want to read it....it looks like school and not fun!
The other question would be what are the last three letters of the title? I'm guessing it would be "UAL" (or would it be "NTS"?). Either I think would be hard to follow and might force them to use more than three letters.

[book:ICS for Single Resource and Initia..."
Is it a book you can read? or is it more of a reference book? I saw a bunch of those when I was searching but was sure if they would count....It's nice that you have one to actually look at!

So you're saying we can use our second supply book (that starts with letter I) to cover the I in "ICS". Then we're just left with CS as the first two letters we need to cover? I thought we were swapping, but when I look at their example again I think you are right. And this also means that we wouldn't be able to use a supply book for every round, only in rounds where the first or last letter of what they give us matches the first or last letter of one of our supply books?

Sic Semper Tyrannis - available on kindle for $6, but is second book in series and 600+ pages.
There's several books that start with title Sic Semper Tyrannis then have various subtitles. "NIS" seems hard, so if there's anything there someone wants to read it could be good. But they do seem to be long and maybe ones we'd have to buy and often in a series...
Here are some examples
Sic Semper Tyrannis
Sic Semper Tyrannis Book One: Passage
Sic Semper Tyrannis: Why John Wilkes Booth Shot Abraham Lincoln
Sic Semper Tyrannis: Serendipity
Sic Semper Tyrannis: The Uprising of the Common Man
Sic Semper Tyrannis: A Novel of Liberty and the American Future

Wait I messed up --- the second book doesn't end in "E" (the author's last name ends in "E" and I misread....bummer

I was wondering if that might be a good idea too...I was thinking we'd use the E from same book and make "ESC" which opens up any title starting with ESCape and there are probably lots of others.

D13 - Sukiyaki, Gospel and Jazz"
I think Char should have dibs since she suggested it, however I'd be willing to read it too if no one else wants it (there's a book on KU that I'd like to read for the Impossible Disney challenge, so I think I'll need to sign up temporarily for that at some point this year anyway....)

I'd be good with that. :)

One of the rules is that books can be rea..."
Sukiyaki, Gospel and Jazz is an excellent find! "Azz" seems hard to follow - I wonder if this is the one that will force them to use 4 letters...
