I've started Lilac Girls. Here is the link to my first set of DQs. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

DQs - Set 11. I'm not completely sure of the significance of the title yet. However, when I think of lilacs, I think of beauty. I'm hoping that the meaning will soon come.
2. Caroline appears to be a very confident woman. I find it interesting that she appears to be from an affluent family, but remains a spinster.
Kasia seems to be overshadowed by everyone in her life. I look for her to get herself into deeper trouble as she looks for acceptance.
Herta is interesting because she is determined to be a doctor in a time when only men were seen in this position.
3. With each woman given her own chapter, the reader is better able to differentiate time and place of each.
4. I don't think Pietrik has feelings for Kasia. It appears as though he looks to her as a sister. I'm not optimistic about Nadia and her mother.
5. I do feel for Herta with her Heinz situation. No one should have to go through that trauma.
6. I would like to think that Caroline and Paul will have a future. However, I get the impression that he may just be leading her on because she is in the right place at the right time.
7. So far, this novel is a little slow-going for me. I am hopeful for Caroline and Paul, scared for Kasia, and angry for Herta.
Finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Now onto Lilac Girls. This weekend is turning out to be full of wonderful relaxation in the sunshine.

"It's our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."Going back to a previous comment of mine, this quote continues to make me think of the world we live in. This is a great piece of advice to give to anyone second guessing themselves.

I'd like to talk characters for a moment...Lockhart - I didn't remember from my first read how "into himself" he was. It's actually rather annoying as he goes around signing his books and creating photo opportunities.
Draco Malfoy - (This makes me sad, since this is my team) - I can't stand this little brat. He's given anything he wants from his Daddy, which makes him a bit "too big for his britches".
In making some real world connections, I think some of the quirks of these characters are what makes this series so relatable to people and children of all ages. Although it is obnoxious, I know in the American society, bullying is huge topic of conversation. This series has so much of it!

Hi all! My fiance and I went away this weekend to celebrate our birthdays, but I was able to start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I am about 100 pages in. I am also trudging through Dog Collar Knockoff. Although I enjoy this series, this one isn't very exciting yet.
The Girl Who Drank the Moon is something I have been wanting to read. I can pick that one up.Until I am done teaching at the end of the month, I won't have many finished. However, once my summer vacation starts I'll be finishing much more quickly.

We have..."
Oh my! Yes, very crazy! We seem to be off to a great start, though.
I also plan to do Lilac Girls for BOTM and I will be making my way through the HP series. If we use a book for spells, can it ALSO be used for a class? I guess my question is...are we looking at having to read over 300 books?! lol
I was taking a peek at the spreadsheet, and I am completely confused with the 'classes' tab. lol Will there be further explanation of what each category requires?
