Day 2: chapters 6 - 13
6. So, "Frigid", the book within a book being written by Dusty and edited by Charlie. Fan fiction or a brutal hatchet piece?
Definitely fan-fiction
7. We get more of the backstory of Nora's life. Does this history give you hope for her future as well as explain her current attitude towards love?
There needs to be a HEA with Nora realising she can love and be loved.
8. Libby is at too much of a loose end - setting up a fake dating profile for Nora & everything!? What do you think this says about the sisters and their relationship?
They care about each other and want to fix each other’s problems. Easier to try and fix the problems that you see in others than deal with your own
9. So we've seen the failing business to be saved, been on a date to a karaoke night - are you enjoying seeing the Small-Town Romance cliches (and I loved that the song mutilated was the theme for that classic Small-Town, Second Chance Romance, Sweet Home Alabama!) being subverted?
I am enjoying the clichés

We could always set the ball in Malibu

1. The book opens up with the quote: When books are your life-or in my case, your job- you get pretty good at guessing where a story is going." Where do you think this story is going? Is this your first Emily Henry Book? Do you think it will be like any of the others if you have read them before?
I have read Emily Henry before and her books are fun and light hearted. Nora and Charlie will end up together with bumps along the road
2. Nora feels like she is losing Libby. She begins to notice all that they no longer know about each other, from Libby getting her ex's name wrong to the moments she has missed in the children's lives. Have you ever felt this way with a family member or friend? Did you ever do anything crazy to try to force the relationship back to what it used to be? How far do you think she will go to get this back with Libby?
Siblings grow apart and it generally takes a drastic event to re-establish L that bond
3. Have you ever visited a place after reading about it in a book? If so, was it as you expected it to be? If you could visit any real place from a book, where would you go?
No I haven’t but I have been to a lot of places in the UK that appear in books.
4. I loved the list so much and the banter between the sister over it. What is your favorite item on the list? What would you do to fulfill it?
I didn’t much care for the list although I have been skinny-dipping
5. My favorite scene so far has been when Nora sends the message " What about Bigfoot erotica? .... As soon as I hit send, I snap to my senses. Why of all the words available to me is this what I said?” What’s your favorite scene so far?
The realisation that the manuscript she is reading is about her

@Robin love the story we will probably need to pull these 3 from it to add to other sections:
The Book of Cold Cases - works for Calliope
The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women - works for Clio
The Light in Hidden Places - Clio

I just went through all the books we've read since the Inspiration mini started and have assigned them all to a spot in the mini!

Love this

We are entering our second heatwave of the summer with temperatures expected to reach 86°F by the end of the week.
Started Malibu Rising which I’m enjoying and am still reading The Red Pyramid, love a Rick Riordan novel. Both are slow going as they are physical books but the rest of my reads are going to be on audio.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid - July 2022 Themed BOM - THE SEA (starts 16 July 2022)

1. Both Daisy Jones & The Six and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo have been BOMs in this group before. Have you read these books (or others) by Taylor Jenkins Reid too or is Malibu Rising your first book by the author? What are your expectations going in?
I read and enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo especially the dual narrative and alternating timelines, a recurring theme for me this year
2. We have been introduced to quite a lot of MCs and their different POVs in the first 20% of the book. Do you prefer one character/POV over the others or is it still too early to tell?
At this stage it is too early to tell. It will be interesting to see how Kit comes out from behind the shadow of her siblings
3. The writing has quite a contemporary feel to it, especially the 1983 timeline, which makes it easy to forget the book is actually set in the past. What's your opinion on the writing and the back and forth between the two timelines so far, and how does it compare to other TJR books you've read (if any)?
I like the alternating time lines if gives depth to the characters, where they are now and how they got there.
4. "The story of June and Mick Riva seemed like a tragedy to their oldest child, Nina. It felt like a comedy of errors to their first son, Jay. It was an origin story for their second son, Hud. And a mystery to the baby of the family, Kit. To Mick himself it was just a chapter of his memoir."
We don't really know how June and Mick's marriage post kids 1 + 2 went (and ended) yet, but from what we've learned about each of the siblings and their (love) lives so far, how do you think their parents' story has affected them after reading the quote above?
It seems that as Mick’s fame grew his need for recognition overrode his responsibilities as a father and husband believing that throwing money at it would make everything ok.
--- Also, for everyone who has read Evelyn Hugo, can we please talk about the (brief) mention of Celia St. James AND THE FACT THAT (view spoiler).
And while we're at it, Mick also had a cameo in Daisy Jones & the Six!
I did like this cross-reference
