35559 Managed to start and finish The English Patient despite surprise conference calls. I didn't think much of the film but the book was a 5-star read for me. Off to bed with Shopping for a Billionaire.

Tomorrow I think will be Waiting for Tom Hanks

There is a tab on the tracking sheet for BOMs for tracking DQ participation. You can either track your DQs on the sheet or post your completion in the thread and we’ll transfer it to the sheet.

35559 DQ: 18 May - Sugi and Chikako's Hotel for Pets & Between Friends

9) Considering Satoru seems to be quite perceptive overall, do you think he knew about Sugi’s less charitable feelings about him, both in the past and during this visit?

No I don’t think he does, he seems to see the best in people and comes across as quite a lonely person. He has a natural affinity to animals and seems to understand them.

10) So far, the chapters have all been combining Satoru and Nana’s journey with Satoru’s past with several other people, as well as their backgrounds. How do you feel about this interlude (chapter 3.5) focused entirely on the man and his cat? What does it add to the story?
This is a very bittersweet moment, Nana is more than a pet to Satoru and his family and companion.

11) For the first time, we got a hint of what’s going on with Satoru when the dog said “he smells like he isn’t going to make it” in chapter 3, and this came up again in chapter 3.5. So it sounds like Satoru is ill… was that your prediction for question 4?
Everything points to cancer, thinning hair, losing weight. Animals know when something doesn’t smell quite right

12) Squabbles between cats and dogs were really present in these sections. So: Are you a cat person or a dog person or both (or neither)?
I am more of a dog person, for the first 7 months of my dogs life she was brought up alongside our old male cat and has picked up his tendencies. She rarely barks and just looks at you when she wants something. Our cat would silent meow when he wanted something them just stare at you
35559 DQ: 17 May - The Unsentimental Farmer

5) I really like reading the cat's thoughts. It can be quite funny. Do you think these are convincing cat thoughts?

I do think the cat’s thoughts are convincing, I often used to wonder what my car was thinking.

6) In this chapter we are introduced to Yoshimine, another potential owner for our cat. What do you think of him and his backstory?
I think he is a kind person, despite the neglect from his parents his grandmother’s influence has helped him to develop into a kind human.

7) Do you think Yoshimine would have been a good owner for Nana ?
He is a kind person, despite his brutish appearance. He has an obvious fondness for animals and seems to me to have a gentle soul.

8) Yoshimine has already a kitten called Chatran, and Satoru makes fun of him for naming his cat with such a cliché name. What is for you the most cliché cat name(s)? In french it is quite common to call a cat Chaussette (meaning sock), Mistigri or Felix (actually a cat food brand).
Probably Leo, Felix, sooty

We adopted a cat from friends who was named Psycho, sadly he has since passed at the grand old age of 21. Despite his name he was a gentle cat, his namesake tendencies only coming out when hunting

35559 Good morning all. Love to see all the reading happening, trying hard not to add to my TBR 😈

Will listen to more of The Travelling Cat Chronicles today, loving Nana’s personality, he reminds me of the cat we adopted, sadly he passed 4 years ago at the grand old age of 21.
Started Shopping for a Billionaire for another challenge. It’s a short ebook so should have it done in a day or two. Hoping to finish The Perfume Collector today on audio, I’m working from home so should have no distractions, next audio up is The English Patient which I may be able to fit in today. 🤞
Right need to grab some breakfast and walk the dog before starting work.
