35559 My first ever with the Twelve Towers in 2017 and I have one book left as well. I keep saving it for Wheel for U and then never getting U's.

Finished The Killing Moon by N.K. Jemisin as #21. I only gave it 3 stars as I just could not connect with the characters or the plot. This is my second 3 star N.K. Jemisin book in a row and that makes me sad.
Also, only now am I even with the number of books that I started the year with and last year my TBR list went down by 70 so not doing as well this year on that.

35559 Second, books can be finished again for Round 3 in 4.5 hours.
We have 7 X's claimed so far so hold off on adding anymore for now as we might get more X's in a later round.

Edited: No worries, Sally. It would have been only 4 point difference so I just used my book.

Thank you, I added it to the SS and just tell us when you finish it

Hide (Detective D.D. Warren, #2) by Lisa Gardner"

That is >50% white so it works great.

35559 Sophie, if you want to hold off on yours, we don't need it this round. Sandy's two will finish off the round.

Though, if anyone else finishes a book, add it to the sheet and we will make it work.

35559 No worries, we can use everything so far. It just helps planning. We should have exactly the maximum right now.
Nov 05, 2021 07:16AM

35559 As we are 30 hours out, can people give me a sense of what books they will finish between today and the end of the round? Thank you

Questions are great. It is first and last name only. So, A and M (unless it is a multiple name last name)

Yes please. We will take all read books and move things around to get the most points.
35559 DQs Day 3: Sweat Lodge Massacre - Shirts and Skins (61%)

9. What do you think about what happened to Lewis and people’s reaction to the news?

10. The section title is “Sweat Lodge Massacre.” Do you think the two other guys (Gabe and Cass) will live through this section? Do you think other bystanders or even Gabe’s daughter will be killed?

11. What do you think of this section so far as compared to the first one?

12. Where do you think the dogs went at the end of this section? Do you think there is a relation do between the elk woman and dogs or just used for the imagery?

Anything we need specifically?"

We don't need a huge number of more books this round so longer books are always better, but we are good on genre and the hard letters.

35559 Also, somehow Lirael is tagged horror 55 times so you never know what might count

35559 Round 2 ends at 9pm UK 6 November.

Here is the countdown to the end of round 2: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
35559 Day 2: Friday - Still Tuesday 68 - 129 (42%)

5. Wow. I was not expecting this section to end that way, did you? I really thought Lewis was going to be our main protagonist for the rest of the story. Were you surprised like me or were you able to predict the bloody ending? I was not totally surprised as I expected everyone to be dead by the end which would need a change of point of view character. So far, I am not finding the description of gore that impactful. I am just finding the whole narrative distancing but hopefully, the next section is better.

6. Lewis was often wondering why the “elk woman” was terrorizing him and his friends in this order. What do you think? Any predictions on which friend we’ll follow next? Maybe the one who shot the elk. Hard to say and why there was so much time between Lewis and Ricky. I don’t but the meat in freezer excuse.

7. Do you think the elk woman is real or just in the minds of our protagonists? If she is real: any ideas of who she might be? I think she is real, and it was suggested at the end that she was the unborn child.

8. At one point Lewis thinks that Shaney can’t be all bad because she doesn’t fold down the pages on books. What are your feelings on dog-earing books? How do you like to keep your place when you read? If it is your book than do whatever you would like but do not bend my books. I use random receipts, maybe a real bookmark and the little reserve pieces of paper from the library that have my name on them.
35559 Discussion questions day 1

1. Just here for the points, or was this one on your radar already? Is horror a genre you usually read, or is this an opportunity for you to go outside your comfort zone?
I like horror sometimes but usually more in the Lovecraftian (without the racism) vein of horror. I wanted to read this when it first came out, but the reviews made me pass, but here I am anyways for the points.

2. This book starts as I suspect it means to continue: Bleak, dark and with a hefty dollop of misery. Do you like it when a book starts in the middle of the action, or do you prefer a happy slice of life first before everything goes awry?
I like both depending on the book. I thought the elk was a bit much so early in the book.

3. The elk. Were you intrigued about this straight away? Did you instinctively see this as a psychological or supernatural issue?
I think considering the book that it is supernatural. AS I said above, it seemed a bit much and usually I like the horror being sneakier at the start. It was much sneakier in the second section.

4. What do you think so far? Anything standing out that you really like or don’t like?
I think the telling of the story so far keeps me further from the characters than I would prefer. If I am to care when the assumedly eventually die, then I need to care about them.

35559 I will finish the BOM next week (I have DQs today) and can also read The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor for horror and white cover.
Nov 04, 2021 06:37AM

35559 Sorry for not posting this yesterday. The day got away from me as I had meetings until 6:30 PM.

Week 3: Our word is EXPLORING. Our tags are horror (need 10 of at least 10 tags each) and cover white (need only 5)

We will need 7 X's but also Is and Os.

Also, as Lisa mentioned, we have a Backroom BOM that starts Nov 9. This is adult only (18+), as it does have explicit content. To be fair, it is unlikely to have anything plot related mind explicit content. Due to the time travel theme, the book is about dinosaurs and the discussion is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
This is a separate group that you would request to join.

We don't on this team but if you or anyone needs one, they are a few who are Captains, and I can ask in that group

35559 Poll for the Adult BOM for December is up.
Link: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Feel free to vote for whichever book you like, but if you are conflicted, I nominated Harlem Shuffle and Lisa nominated Hyde
