Despite my long list of books that I have as my favorites, I must say that "A Child Called It" is also one of my favorite ones as well. I read all but the last one, I think it's "A Man Named Dave" These books teach us about hope and real-life experiences that occur on a daily basis around our world.
Hi my name is Norma and I am also in the TeacherTrac program. I have decided to change my major, however, due to my love of education and children I have chosen a career where I will continue working with children. I am now pursuing a career in speech pathology. I will be applying to Cal State Fullerton this fall to transfer in the Spring of 2009. I also enjoy reading and wish I had more time to do it. However, I get too involved in books and forget about my other responsibilities!
I have always enjoyed reading thus it is difficult for me to say that there was one particular book I enjoyed the most. A series of books that I recall reading though, were Beverly Cleary's Ramona Quimby. I really enjoyed these books because I pictured myself as being Ramona and experiencing the adventures that went on in the book. A book that really touched me as an elementary student was Helen Keller. This was the first book that made me cry. Since then I have greatly enjoy reading non-fiction and biographies to learn more about real-life stories and people.
I think that this website serves many positive purposes in the educational field that can improve teaching and learning. For example, teacher's are able to get an idea of what their student's enjoy by reading comments they post. Also, students have an opportunity to communicate in an educational setting with others from all over the world instead of using more harmful websites such as myspace. In this way kids are engaged in something they like without fear of harm. The fact that students are online also serves for students to learn more about technology and usage of the web. Teachers can use goodreads.com to have class discussions and make a class somewhat interactive where all students can join at the same time and communicate about a book they are currently reading in class. This serves as a good way for a teacher to learn more about a student's need or questions on the book, especially if those student's don't always speak-up in class.
