I teach Japanese college students, many of whom have had such a bad experience learning English they have absolutely no confidence. Most of the time my job is to convince them that English is fun and that they can do it! In other words, mostly I'm un-doing what six years worth of other teachers have done! Anyway, a good teache3r, or at least one who cares about their students, can make such a huge difference.
Damn!I have gotten sidetracked, sucked into an irresistable re-read of the Outlander series (which of course I can't put down, say it with me gals...Jamie Fraser, swoon!) and haven7t even read one book for this Challenge yet!
I did a dismal job with the March Challenge but I'll give this one a shot anyway. I ought to at least be able to get a few of my TBRs read this way!

Even my husband was paying attention, and he usually won't sit through a vampire or other supernatural/ paranormal story. It's nice to have something he and I can watch together (after the kids are asleep of course, nudge nudge wink wink)
Man, you are all leaving me in the dust on this one. I just can't put down my current read Wit'ch Storm and since I have lots of real-life family stuff going on I just haven't got any reading time!I did catch Episode 1, Season one of True Blood yesterday , though, for all you Sookie Stackhouse fans! My DH downloaded it,
since it's not available over here in Japan yet.
Ok here is my list. I actually found 23 without even breaking a sweat! Yes, I have a book hoarding problem! I'll attempt to read 12 of the following by the deadline...bloody unlikely but a girl can dream, hope springs eternal and all that. If I get any of them actually read and out the door it's all good.

OK, I'm doing it!I actually lost sleep over this last night, and ended up getting up and finding not just 12 but 20 books that fit.
I'll post the full list later on! Since I'm not doing so well with the March Challenge I think a yearly one might work better.
I am so tempted to sign up for this one. Problem is, I have books that have been on my shelves 10 years or more and I'm anxious to get them read and out the door! That said, this would be a fabulous excuse to read some of my more recent acquisitions, but still manage to avoid buying yet more books.
Hmmm...let me think about this.
What serendipity.I just hit the used bookstore with my 6 year old daughter today and guess what I was able to trade for?
The first two combined volumes of Vampire Diaries.
They were the equivalent of eight U.S. dollars each which by Tokyo standards is very reasonable. I ordered Nightworld off Amazon last year (three volumes) and paid a lot more for it. I have seriously been meaning to get to it. I've heard the female characters are much stronger in Nightworld than Vampire Diaries so I'll probably like it better. That said, I saw a couple episodes of the TV show and Ian Sommerhalder is pretty darned hot.
Hello, I joined the March Challenge and then realized I never introduced myself. So...hi. I'm from Connecticut and Los Angeles (yes both) but I've lived in Japan for most of my adult life. Thank the gods for the Internet, and for the two fabulous used bookstores here in Tokyo that trade used English paperbacks. I've been a science fiction and fantasy geek since I was maybe 6 and my Mom read me The Book of Three and I've been hooked ever since. Thanks to Goodreads I've really been getting into Paranormal and Urban Fantasy...I do love me some vampires and werewolves.
I also love historical fiction, suspense, and just about anything else as long as it's good. I first discovered Challenges in January, 2008 and I just cannot help myself. I'm a bit OCD...making lists just gets me all excited!
Thanks for enabling my addiction.
OK, I'll jump out of the Lurkers' Lounge and participate! I'll attempt to read at least three of the following:
Read Your Name: Nina Kiriki Hoffman
Read Your Favorite Color: (black and purple)
The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston
Read Your Location: (Japan) The Fox Woman by Kij Johnson
Read An Old Favorite: either Outlander, The Last Unicorn, or The Book of Three
Read Your Favorite Genre: Memory and Dream (UF) by Charles deLint
Read your favorite movie or show based off of a book or series: Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
