I am really enjoying MAN AND WIFE..Wilkie Collins is quite facinating..in the novel he rails against the Scottish Marriage laws and the "new" Victorian excitement for athletics and sports over intellectual pursuits!

I strongly recommend this lesser known Wilkie Collins novel..

There was a 1935 British version called Scrooge with Sir Seymour Hicks and a glossy Hollywood version in 1938 (I believe) with Reginald Owen..both quite good

Agree too. Also I don't like to be told that the conclusion is left "to my imagination or interpretation". Might work very occasionally. Yet the one who created the characters and plots should be in a much better position to create the most appropriate conclusion. Same thing goes for films that end suddenly. Might seem "stylish" to some. Not to me

wow..I looked at both of those books..both look facinating! I enjoy history that is written as a sort of narrative, with alot of primary sources quoted. By this I mean, diaries, letters, speeches. Do these books have this? am not as fond of nonfiction that is mostly second and third hand descriptions..does not bring the subject or times alive as much
