Thanks so much for you very nice posts. I had Velvet for 12 years. Never left my side. Today is first full day that I look for him and he's not there. He is in spirit but so hard. Most of my reading I have done in bed. With Velvet at the foot of the bed. I read last night and as usual was careful when I moved so as not to kick him. So hard to see that he is no longer there. Will take time. Will be fine. And will have those infinite memories of him. Always
25350 Yea. Tried watching the Marley film. Got though about 20 min. Too raw still. Just 8 hrs since he passed.

Thanks Barbara. Still so difficult not having him with me. He was my constant companion for 12 years

25350 From all I have seen of the previews, and heard about the adaption of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak ..this certainly seems like it will be quite the steller film..very eager to see it

25350 The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton

I am reading this 2013 Man Booker winner..very long..yet quite engrossing. I saw an interview the the author and she mentioned how long the book took to write. The level of detail is astounding, and the period (the gold rush..1866 - New Zealand) is captured so very well

I would definatley assume he did..another issue is that Clancy's books are always so very long..therefore a co-writer (or actual writer) of a Clancy book would have to insure that the novel is long..700+ pages..in order to simulate the appearance of a "Clancy Novel" It has to be difficult to write for another author as it is..but to have to write over 700 pages..very hard..and alot of puff gets put in to fatten up the book..more than likely affects the over plot coherence

Russell, I think that perhaps since that is a later book by Clancy, the same amount of research and effort that went into his earlier books was not expended. There is also a co-writer..I am sure he is a fine writer, yet who knows how much of the book he wrote and how much Clancy wrote. For even the best writers, it has to be very hard to completely emulate another author, especially a Clancy.

Sayers books are terrific. And they are almost twice as long as most other detective novels. My favorite has to be Busman's Honeymoon (Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, #13) by Dorothy L. Sayers
