I just finished my second Dahl book for the month, The Twits. This was a funny and quick read. I'd never read this one either. Oh those evil Twits...

I just read The Minpins. I'd never read this one, and it was delightful. Has anyone else read this one?

This is going toe fun! I have wanted to re-read Matilda and the BFG, but there are a few I've never read too. How to choose! :)

I'm only half-way through, but I think some of the concepts are pretty complicated for a child. I would never have read this as a child. Even now, I stopped reading several days when I got to the tesseract demonstration and explanation!Yeah. I had to stop reading for several days too. I thought the first half flew by, but the second half after they landed on the dark planet just went on, and on, and on.
The dark planet definitely reminded me of 1984. Also, has anyone read The Mysterious Benedict Society? The part where the man with the red eyes controls their brain reminds me so much of the evil character in that book!
I'm loving this so much more than when I was a kid. I really can't figure out why I couldn't get into it! I hope to finish this weekend, so we can start discussing!

I'm excited about A Wrinkle in Time. I tried to read it as a child, and could never get very far. I'm sure I'll have a different perspective now!

I was stunned by Anne's constant chatter at first too. I didnt' rememember that being as apparrent in the movies. I really enjoyed it, though. The way she jumped from one subject to the next and the way Marilla dealt with it cracked me up. It was almost sad later in the story when Marilla noticed Anne wasn't so chatty. I wanted her to always stay that way.
I love the relationship between Anne and Matthew, and loved the scene when he goes to buy the dress too! That was great when he bought the wrong kind of sugar.
My favorite Anne antic... there are so many to choose from, but I think the funniest were when she forgot about the rat drowning in the sauce for dessert and when she dies her hair green. I think what made her accidents so funny is how dramatic she always was over them. Everything was the end of the world for her, and it was just fun to see the way Marilla talked her out of staying in hiding forever.
I finished finally. I watched the Muppets version on Christmas Eve and was amazed that it was quoting some lines exactly.

I'm loving this so far. I watched the mini series a ton of times as a kid, so it's great to read the first book finally! The TV movies were amazing, by the way.

Charles wrote: "Hoffmann protrays Marie and Fritz's parents as quite nasty. They mocked Marie with laughter when she told them about their dreams. Maybe this is part of the satire intended by Hoffmann...."
I totally agree! The adults in the story definitely didn't do much to support Marie's imagination. By the end, when she became a princess it almost felt like Hoffmann was saying, "Haha! That'll show you!"
I couldn't find the version in our library either, but found a translation that's supposedly correct, and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. I finished last night! Parts of it are great, other sections seem just as mystifying as the ballet.
