I know you to be a basically optimistic person. So why is so much of what you write "relentless and dark"?

Okay, when I asked, "which o your three books is your favorite" you answered in terms of the the two novels. Why didn't you count the anthology? Do you not think of it as 'a book' but only as a collection of stories? Does putting together an anthology feel different?
