Frederick Douglass was dehumanized by his master, however he was still confident to get his humanity back because he had dignity and hope. He didn't have access to education due to the fact he was slave, therefore he was unable to write correctly, and learn some of the basic stuffs. Frederick was being tortured by Convey, for instance: he abused, and whipped him at several times. Consequently, Frederick wanted to escape and run away from this miserable life, to seek a better life in the North. Above all, his concern was that if his master knew about the fact he wanted to escape, he was going to be in serious trouble.
