As Theodore Roethke said “In a dark time, the eye begins to see,...” this citation is relevant to two books that show the reaction against any threat just at the last very minute, books such as “The Narrative of Frederick Douglass” and the history book “Making Thirteen Colonies” In F. Douglass the character just decided to act against the unjust treatment when it’s too much to handle it. Also in the book “Making Thirteen Colonies” where the characters, the puritans, decided to change their life by moving to another setting in order to have religious freedom. Explicitly, the characters from both books encourage themselves and realize that they should end the “dark time”.
The human nature generally is to act in self defense when we are in extreme danger. I agree with the citation from Theodore Roethke, because it is supported and showed through time that way of human act, in the way that humans react to danger and decide to make decisions just at the last minute, as is shown in "The Narrative of Frederick Douglass" through the means by which F. Douglass, the main character, just decided to get freedom and his humanity back when he was in a high threat. This citation has an affirmative tone which is also relevant to the kind of situation that is described. Furthermore, the citation is connected to F. Douglass because if the decision that he took during "a dark time" and he “begins to see" when he decided to get his humanity back.
The humans also have to "begins to see" when they have been in pressure from part of another group of people. This is relevant to the act from the puritans to escape from the persecution in England and find religious freedom in America. This is show in the book "Making Thirteen Colonies" which is a book that tells the story of the first group of immigrants that came to America. The book is relevant to the act of improve the life style of this group of people during "dark times" and also "begin to see" when they were persecuted and found self-improvement in the mean to find a new land to achieve their belief. Also the setting of the new place where they decide to moved was helpful because there were no laws of discrimination against them. However, the main idea from Theodore Roethke's citation is connected to the action that the Puritans took in order to get light in the "dark times"
Nevertheless, these books, “The Narrative of Frederick Douglass” & “Making Thirteen Colonies” are related to T. Roethke’s quote because the main characters, F. Douglass and the Puritans are humans that decided to act in order to end some kind of threat, “a dark time” they act just at the last very time, and notice the truth that has keeping them in that “dark time” in order to “begins to see”

the citation "This insolence of theirs is nothing new; they used it once before and at a gate less secret..."(inferno, canto VIII) I chose this citation because Dante's philosophy was based on the sims from the people to show the punishment that they will get.

My poem's major theme is about opportunity which is not related to my independent reading book.

the setting in my book is the hell(inferno) that is where the characters have most trouble...
i think is the only way that the setting affect the plot , but in other way the story have more development in the hell.

In my book is not main character, its a book full of small tales, but if a character need something it has to be Fortunato from "The cast of Amontillado", he needs more company from someone else, because he must have someone to talk and spend some time in others stuff.
