Sarah’s comments from the The Hate U Give Discussion Threads group.

Firstly, I wouldn't have picked this book up on my own, so I'm glad to have found an online book club that's expanding my reading horizons!

Secondly, I just finished this last night and this morning I'm turning something over in my mind. I guess the book is aimed at YA and onwards due to its themes and language, and yet the relationships between Starr and her parents, and Starr and Chris read like a book aimed at a younger audience. I mean, there's pretty much no conflict there: her parents and Chris are PERFECT, and always say and do the right things. Relationships between these key people don't normally run this smooth. Do you think this was an intentional move by the author? What effect did it have on you against the harshness of what Starr was dealing with?
