220 Lon DuQuette needs to be merged into GR author Lon Milo DuQuette

When rivka gets back Whren, Merrillee is clearly GR author Merrillee Whren as well.

If you find a spam "book", please do NOT delete it. Link to the book here, please, so we can give Otis as much info as possible."

Will do. In the past you wanted links to the users more than the books; has that changes or was "Link to the book here" a thinko?

I should also note that, when I found the ones reported in 102 above, I edited the book descriptions slightly to remove the links that are the real spam payload, hopefully reducing the efficacy of their strategy by removing any PageRank they might be earning from the post. The old descriptions should still appear in the edit histories, but should I stop doing that to enhance Otis's analysis?

220 New spammers:

Do we still need to catch them manually, or is this what the new code is designed to clean out after the fact? IOW, when I see this, should I report it here, kill it myself, or just ignore it and trust the code?

Not sure if I should delete it or not..."

It was still there today and doesn't seem to be real, and the user who added t is gone, so spam or not, I've deleted the book. I don't think I can delete the author, but the Empty Author script should kill it eventually. I didn't see a related Quoue entry.

220 Too much sugar for me, thanks. ;-P
Meanwhile, movie based on short story, which had 10 reviews, merged to the book containing that story, now needs super to delete.

220 This short story has been merged with the book it is part of, but needs a super to delete it.

220 Thanks, Melody. Found another though:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

In fact, it looks like GRLibrarian http://www.goodreads.com/librarian/us... has been adding a bunch of short-story entries without ISBNs. If, as I suspect, this is not kosher, someone with more authority than I might want to thank her for her efforts and ask her to stop.

220 I think this needs a super delete:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...
Short story, once published in a magazine, turned into a movie, no ISBN.
GR Author merge (952 new)

220 http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

should be merged into

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

but it looks like the one multi-author book on that record might need deletion after the reviews are merged: the ISBN appears to be corrupted, and I can't find any evidence that this is a separate edition from the one already listed correctly.

220 Previously dabbed, but without the profile link to the master dab thread (now resolved) and without listing here. I've now also added a third, and done most of the reorgannizing.

220 Berger, BERGERUD, and Coates appear to be done (I got the last Berger entry myself). The list from post 454 seems to be handled as well.

220 I'm trying to do some cleanup in Nabokov and I found this edition of Lolita. I was expecting it would be a French printing and just needed a quickie language update, but confirming with WorldCat showed that ISBN belonging to an Italian translation of Lʹignoranza by Milan Kundera. Now I have no idea what to do with it, or whether to trust WorldCat that implicitly.
Dec 27, 2010 12:37AM

220 I found a book that was listed as "Lolita by Nobokov" with no other publication data: no ISBN, no cover, no language, nothing. I got it merged into the proper Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, but apparently it still had too many reviews to be deleted by me, so I guess it needs a super.

220 In cases where I know and can prove that the quote is misattributed, but where it cannot be fixed here (like because the real source is not an author), I generally just put "misattributed" in the tag field, and sometimes the source name when known and likewise reasonably provable. I just can do that with this one because at this point only a super can edit it at all, even just in the tags.

As examples, here's one with the real source's name in the tags:
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...

One with no proper source:
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...

And one I moved to the real source, and tagged with the original misattribution (apparently before it got locked out):
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...

The maxim that "famous words need famous mouths" makes our quote database, like all the other crowd-sourced quote databases, rather corrupt, sadly. Fixing what I can find is one of my Sisyphean pet projects.

220 Needs super (the author & award probably need to go as well)
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28...
Dec 08, 2010 12:58AM

220 Long since lost track of this. Any chance a super could at least tag it as "misattributed"?
Dec 06, 2010 06:15PM

220 I was rather hoping to get away without having to do this, since the second one didn't publish much outside of Hollywood, but his name appears as a collaborator with his father on a few plays so he's already in the database.

220 Here's a few I disambiguated without remembering to post here:

Andrew^Murray (1828) Religion & Spirituality
Andrew^^Murray (1970) Children's Books
Andrew^^^Murray (1958) Nonfiction (labour)

David^Shoemaker Religion & Spirituality
David^^Shoemaker Philosophy
David P. Shoemaker History

Also, I haven't done anything to these guys, as they are already disambiguated via the missing period, but if that's against standard someone may want to tag them too.

Paul M Edwards Religion & Spirituality
Paul M. Edwards History

I did not add the boilerplate Librarian Note to the author profiles, assuming that should wait until after they are listed on the linked forum. Please send a PM if that's wrong and I'll endeavor to add it in the future (though I do far more combining of author variants than disambiguating).

Thanks, you're welcome, I'm sorry. ;-)

P.S. Just saw elsewhere in thread that note should be applied right away, so I added that to the ones that are dabbed by spaces (i.e., the first 5 above).
