21935 So how does Smashword and other on-line publishers of books actually work? I don't understand the whole setup and I've been hesitant to use it. I was afraid that I would be putting my book into cyberspace for everyone to read for free. Do you get any royalties? I would appreciate your input. thanks.

I tried it again and it worked this time. Your murals are charming. With 6 kids, where do you get the time to do all the things that you do? Are your kids all in school full time? You're probably incredibly efficient.

21935 I just tried to check your murals again and got the same response from the site.

21935 I have not been able to find a publisher yet and am thinking about going the self-publishing route. I haven't decided yet. Do you have any advice?

Hi Melissa, I tried to access the murals but my computer said there was no access to it. Maybe you have another way?

My book is about an experience that began with a former client of mine. Her son was receiving early intervention services after they both had strokes in the birth process. I was asked to provide social services to the family. The book is about their recovery and the development of our relationship. Denise, the mother, was angry throughout but never said why. After about five months of working with her, she asked me to write her book. The second half of the book is about her telling me of her childhood experiences recovering from abuse of all kinds to get beyond it and become a mother and a pastor. Most people who've read it have found it inspiring.

21935 Hi Melissa, Welcome to the group. Your projects sound very interesing. Do you paint the murals or get them from others to donate? I'm a social worker and wrote one book Dancing On My One Ugly Toe Around the Rim Of Hell that I am trying to get published. I would love to hear more about your social support, The Women's Nest.

21935 I also am interested in all the arts. I live near Chicago and get to see a lot of plays. But writing is the only art form in which I am engaged. I love to people watch in crowds and public places and try to create stories about people that I see. It's great fun.

21935 Music is a great outlet. Enjoy playing it. Maybe someday I will try playing the violin again.

21935 I played the violin all through junior high school and high school. It had some satisfactions of its own but I have to say that I wasn't very talented. When I left for college, I put the violin away. I did miss it for years afterwards.

21935 Thank you Kevis. After, I made the above comment, I read everything that you and Rita had written. Sorry. I should have done that before I posted that question. All writers borrow ideas, thmes, and inspiration from each other. I don't think that Lyssa and I were referring to that. Rather we were worried about outright plagiarism. BTW, I write creative nonfiction and realistic fiction. I am still deliberating on what things to submit to the group in a thread.

I am new here also and those thoughts go through my mind as well. Does anyone who has been on this site a while have any information about the security of it?

Yes, that does help. I will write those instructions down and follow them to create a thread - sometime in the next week or so. That is just the kind of clearly written instruction I need to do anything new to me on the computer. Thank you.

21935 Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm also trying to get a book published. It's about my relationship with Denise who asked me to write her memoirs. She had a horrendous childhood consisting of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. She was misdiagnosed mentally retarded and hospitalized but she got beyond all that and became a pastor. I'm trying to get the book out there. If anyone has any ideas how to do it, I'd love to hear from you. Lisa
