218559 Part two of two

"The best years of life are all of them. Be sure to make them get better and better as life goes on."

Hɪsᴛᴏʀʏ: Maybell Rose Frances Valois is the youngest daughter and child of the royal Valois family. She was born one stormy night in the Valois palace, just outside of Paris. She was a cute little baby, giggling constantly and playing with anything she could get her hands on. Little did her mother know that her baby daughter would grow up to be a lot like that storm raging outside the windows that night.

Maybell was a rambunctious scamp of a child. Her father quickly dubbed her Maysie and the nickname stuck, though as she grew it began to be shortened to simply May. She was always tagging along with her father or brothers when she was little, trying to see what they were up to and to do things with them. She liked to watch her father do exciting things, but quickly got bored of the politics and court meetings he dealt with. Instead, she would sneak out of her sewing lessons to find her brothers where they trained or played together, always envy of the roughness they could have with each other that she couldn't with her sisters.

She was a loud child too, always speaking her mind when she felt the need. The only time she was quiet was when she was watching her brothers do weapons training. Her favorite was sword fighting, and from the very first time she could want something she wanted to learn how to use a sword. And so, around the age of 7, she began to demand her father let her learn to use a sword. She tried many excuses to convince him to put a blade in her hands: he'd taught Aylani to shoot a bow and arrow; she would need to defend herself as a royal; it would grant her exercise and time outside (not that she needed help with that). Though it wasn't until her last excuse that her father agreed, seeing as it wasn't really an excuse. Not only was she a girl in their family, but she was also the youngest child. There was nothing in her future except an eventual marriage alliance. She'd never be queen or anything like that, so why not let her enjoy herself while she had the time? In response to this speech she gave her father, he presented her with her very own sword on her eighth birthday and granted her permission to learn to use it.

She put her whole heart into her training, though it ended up being a lot more difficult for her than she'd expected. She wasn't big and strong like her brothers and could hardly pick up the practice sword. But she didn't let that or anything else stop her as she trained. She began to realize she could use her size to her advantage, slipping in and out of targets and sliding into places others couldn't possibly fit. She loved fighting and began to get quite, quite good at it.

When she was eleven, she was able to convince her father that she was ready to train with her brothers. He wasn't so sure, but let her try it to see if she really wanted to. Her eldest brother was much too old and and too far ahead in training for her to spar with, but her second brother, who was only two years older than her, was put against in her a mock battle. It began the way it should've played out, with *Blank* beating her and knocking her down. But May knew that with her smaller size and quicker speed, she could take her brother down to her size and beat him. And that was exactly what she did. She slid between his legs, kicking out and knocking his feet out from under him. From there she knocked his sword away and held her's in a victor's position. From that moment on, she was allowed to train with her brothers and has only gotten better since.

Barely a year ago, when she was thirteen, Maysie Valois killed her first man. Or rather, boy. It was more of an accident during self defense than anything else. She had just run away from the castle, angry with her mother for some reason or another, and was walking around town alone when a couple older boys cornered her in an alley. May could only imagine what was on their minds, drawing her sword as she warned them about who she was, a Princess of France. They merely laughed as they inched closer. Suddenly, a young man emerged from nowhere and began to fight off the boys away from her. He was able to take on two at once, but the third came after her. He knocked her down, but May grasped for her sword, rolling over and driving it into his stomach. The boy fell, bleeding out, and May struggled to her feet, covered in his blood. The young man who'd saved her picked her up as she was too faint to do anything, too much in shock, and carried her back to the castle where she was immediately rushed to the infirmary despite that the blood was not her's.

The man was rewarded well for saving the princess' life and was granted a knightship. Maysie's guard was fired for incompetence, as he had been unable to keep up with her in town, and she asked her father to make the man, Jordan, her new guard. Since then the two have become quite good friends.

Now Maysie is fourteen and still training with her sword. She gets better and better every day, just like she gets better and better at avoiding her mother's grasp. She has no intention of finding romance as Courting season comes to France. In fact, she intends to stay clear of any and all Court events.

Fᴀᴛʜᴇʀ: Former King Marcus Valois, deceased

Compared to her relationship with her mother, Maysie’s relationship with her father was quite good before his untimely death. She appreciated his good attitude and adventurous personality, though her age prohibited her from really acting as though she looked up to him. The two could easily have a good laugh, and Maysie somewhat saw him as a role model, though she would never admit it outloud.

Mᴏᴛʜᴇʀ: Queen *Blank* Valois,

Maysie has a difficult enough time getting along with other girls, and getting along with her mother is even harder. The two could not be any more different. *will add more when queen is made*

It seems that Maysie and Aylani are always at odds. The two princesses could not be more different. While Aylani understands her role as heir and makes it very clear that she is ready to take on the throne, May makes it even more clear that she wants nothing to do with politics or princessly duties. May obviously frustrates Lani quite often, and the two tend to stay away from each other. May doesn’t quite understand the fact that she and Lani are actually quite similar, except that her heir sister has to be poised and perfect in order to rule the country.

Rᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴsʜɪᴘ Sᴛᴀᴛᴜs: Single

Rɪᴅɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
While she isn't nearly as good a rider as her elder sister Aylani is, May certainly knows how to get around on her horse, Snowball. She is talented, though she doesn't dare push her limts while sitting atop her horse.

Fɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
Maysie is an incredible sword fighter, in training since she was eight years old. While she isn't strong like most men, she is quick and agile, and knows how to use her speed and size to her advantage. She is also very determined, and doesn't give up on anything until she accomplishes it.

Rᴇᴀᴅɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
Like any highborn lady, May was taught to read from a very young age. However she hates to sit inside with a book and because of that her reading skills aren't as adept as they maybe should be. Not that she cares much about that.

Sᴛᴜᴅʏ Hᴀʙɪᴛs:
Despite her mother's and nannies' constant attempts to teach Maysie to be able to do any sort of task that a woman to do, May refuses to do any of them. She can't sew, her manners are awful, and she hardly remembers anything she's taught in her lessons. Her study habits are essentially non-existent.

Pᴇᴛ: Moon (wolf, male)

Maysie found Moon when she was twelve. His mother had been killed by hunters and he was alone in the grass. She picked him up and carried him home, claiming that he was her's now and she would care for him. Her mother protested, but there was nothing anyone could do after she'd set her mind on something. Since then, Moon has grown very large and the two share an incredible bond. He defends Maysie with sharp teeth and can scare almost anyone away from her.

In their middle age, their fate may be uneven, but after hardships they will enjoy a bright prospect. They are also likely to be dogmatic and like showing off when accomplishing something.

“Imperfection can actually be quite fun.”

Pᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ: Maysie is a fierce and clever girl who is unconstrained by social expectations like gender roles, courtly virtues, class distinctions, and the expectations of her parents and siblings. A tomboy, she never aspired to be a “proper lady” like her elder sister Aylani did. May is an enthusiastic individual, full of life, and she makes others smile just by the virtue of her spirited indifference to rules. As a young child, she followed her siblings around everywhere, especially Sebastian and Josse, hoping to be like her brothers when she grew older. Since doing so, she has become more independent and able to entertain herself (especially with her sword), but she still follows Josse(?) around every so often. Yet however defiant or unruly she acts, Maysie actually doesn’t desire to be the center of attention. While she hates to be ignored, she is content to stay outside by herself and practice swinging her sword around and perfecting her fighting skills.

Maysie has often been described as a little burst of flame. She may be small, but there’s no doubt she is a strong-willed and hot-headed princess of France. She is hard-headed and rarely lets others change her mind about opinions she’s already made. She can be very sassy and always has something to say in return to another comment. She is a teenager still, which doesn’t help her need to always have the last word. She enjoys fighting, both physically and with words, but would never actually hurt those she loves -- at least not purposefully. Books are definitely not her strong suit and she seriously struggles with her studies. She also struggles with being well-mannered and proper, something her mother constantly tries to correct. But May simply has no desire to be a princess like her heir sister is. “Aylani can be the perfect one in the family,” she tells everyone, “Being imperfect is much more fun.”

Bᴏᴅʏ Tʏᴘᴇ: She is slim, small, and lithe. She knows how to use her size to her advantage, though still complains about being the smallest in the family. She knows she’ll grow at some point, but it frustrates her to think about how long it’s taking. However, her arms and legs are quite muscular from her training, and her ab muscles are surprisingly defined.
Hᴀɪʀ: Maysie’s hair reaches in uneven layers to around her shoulders. It’s still growing out from when she cut it herself with a dagger in an effort to anger her mother. She most often wears it down or back in a simple braid that her handmaiden will do for her, unless her mother sits her down and dresses it up herself for an important event at Court. Her hair is a dark brown color and often gets greasier than other royals’ because of her dislike of bathing.
Eʏᴇs: Maysie’s eyes are a pale blue-green color, often appearing gray like her sister’s.
Dʀᴇssɪɴɢ Sᴛʏʟᴇ: As she continuously mentions, May is not like other princesses. And she makes this clear in the way that she dresses. While her parents buy her multiple fancy dresses and gowns, she more often steals shirts from her brothers when they get too small and hides them in her drawers to wear with pants or leggings.

May 03, 2017 04:41PM

218559 Ah yes. I figured someone smart would ask this lol. Yes, this is technically true but for the sake of this role play, I made it so they remain princes/esses until they are married, then they receive the official title of Duke/Duchess

218559 I'm thinking she might be allergic to grass, which is partly why she doesn't like to roll around outside with him.

Rᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴsʜɪᴘ Sᴛᴀᴛᴜs: Single, looking for a husband

Rɪᴅɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
Aylani loves to be outdoors and therefore loves to ride. She has a gorgeous stallion of her own whom she calls Morning, for she rides him for an hour before breakfast almost every morning. She is a great horseback rider but still believes there is more to be learned.

Fɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
Aylani is not very strong physically, but she has enough strength in her arms to pull back a bow. She was the only girl in her family to learn how to shoot, as her father believed she should know how to defend herself once she was queen. She isn't amazing by any means, but she can definitely hit her mark.

Rᴇᴀᴅɪɴɢ Aʙɪʟɪᴛɪᴇs:
Aylani loves to read and has been reading above her level for as long as she can remember. She spends much of her free time in the castle libraries and owes most of her intelligence and knowledge to the books she has read over the years.

Sᴛᴜᴅʏ Hᴀʙɪᴛs:
As the heir, Aylani has many things she needs to learn to rule a kingdom. She has been in lessons since she was six years old and has been studying thoroughly ever since. She worries about the time when she'll eventually become Queen and therefore is cramming everything in as quickly as possible.

218559 Part two of three

Hɪsᴛᴏʀʏ:
It was the first warm night of Summer when the bells began to toll in announcement of the birth of Princess Aylani Katherina Elisabeth Valois. The first born child of the royals was announced to the public three days later and the subjects of the French Kingdom rejoiced when she was announced the heir to the throne at the ceremony. Aylani was an adorable baby girl, always running after her father down the hallways and trying to climb into her mother's lap when she was sewing, all the while giggling uncontrollably. Quickly dubbed "Lani" by her father, the little princess was the joy of the king and queen's lives.

At the age of six, Lani began her training to be the heir. Sewing, reading, public speaking, geography, mathematics, archery (her father wanted her to learn to defend herself), even lessons on how to walk properly. Everything she did from that point on had to be perfect. She would be the next Queen, the next ruler of France, and her subjects had to respect her despite her age. She did fairly well in her lessons, especially reading. She loved to read, spending much of her free time in the palace library.

When she wasn't in her studies or in the library, Lani was exploring the wide and beautiful outdoors. She would climb the tall trees in the gardens, despite the dress she would be wearing, and swim naked in the clear pond behind the palace with only her maid to watch over her. She loved running and rolling in the grass and was never afraid to get "down and dirty."

Lani was around for each of her siblings' births, waiting impatiently outside the room with her father as her mother gave birth inside. She was always one of the first ones to meet her baby brothers and sisters, treasuring the first time she held each and every one of them. Since before she understood what it was, Lani felt a protective and motherly instinct towards her little brothers and sisters. She wanted to hide them away from the world and keep them safe forever. She tried to be a role model for each one of them, showing off her skills and helping them in the lessons they attended. She would help her sisters read and help her father teach her brothers archery, and always seemed to be right there with her siblings' wet nurses, even when their parents weren't.

Unfortunately, as Lani grew older she was forced to spend less and less time with her siblings. She was often brought in to observe council meetings, war meetings, etcetera. She wasn't allowed to speak in them for a few years yet, but she began learning the best ways to manuever her way through politics at age twelve. She began to spend more and more time with her father, learning the correct ways and the good strategies for ruling a kingdom, things her siblings didn't learn, or at least not as much. She shadowed her father for quite a few years, studying his every move very carefully.

One night, Lani's mother and father sat her down after a council meeting and began to explain to her the true state that the country was in. More than half of France disagreed with the idea of having a female heir. Because of this, she would have to marry as soon as possible in order to keep her hold on the country.

It was at this time, when Lani was thirteen, that she lost the confidence she'd once had in herself. The naivety she'd once possessed in believing the kingdom accepted her for her faded away and she began to fear the day she would eventually have to rule the kingdom on her own, consort or not. She lacked faith in herself, resorting to her perfect exterior and becoming the polished and unemotional person she is today.

When Lani was seventeen, her bodyguard was replaced with a man in his early twenties, whom she and her maid, who was her best friend at the time, befriended very quickly. They became a trio that always seemed to be together, until her maid, Amie, was killed in a bandit attack. The three of them had been strolling in the market in town, when the attackers stormed the market and began slaughtering civilians. Her guard quickly drew his sword and escorted Lani away from the attack as quickly as possible, with Amie just behind them. However bandits surrounded them, demanding they hand the princess over. Amie and Lani looked very similar at the time, with their black hair and nice but casual dresses. Amie noticed this immediately, offering herself to the rebels before Lani could do anything. Amie announced that she was the princess, and one of the attackers swung his sword, removing her head. Lani screamed, too frozen to do anything but let her guard carry her from the battle and deliver her safely back at the palace. It was announced very quickly afterwards that the real princess and heir to the throne was safe and alive, and that the attackers had failed.

They hadn't failed in Lani's eyes though. She snuck out of her room a few nights later, hearing rumors of rebels celebrating in a tavern in town. Her guard caught her, but she refused to let him stop her. Instead, he went with her, and the two entered the tavern with angry faces. Lani killed the man that killed Amie herself, moving close to him and driving her dagger into his chest slowly. It was the only time her dark side ever showed, and she won't speak of it to this day. The only person who knows of this night is her guard, who still works as her bodyguard.

The next few years passed uneventfully. That is, until her father's sudden untimely death. The cause of death is still unknown due to lack of knowledge for the times. His death was caused by the issue that would become known as a heart attack. Lani took on the mantel of Queen only a day after his rainy funeral. After her coronation, her mother sat her down and reminded her she needed to wed a king as soon as she could. So French Court opened to countries around the world.

Pᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ:
Perfection. It's the only thing Aylani strives for. Since she was a small child, Lani has felt the need to go above and beyond in everything she does. She completes every task, no matter how big or how small, to utter perfection, despite the time it may take. She can focus on one thing for hours at a time, something other people tend to struggle with. Distractions don’t exist in her world, nor are they able to exist in her world. Lani has been raised from birth to be a princess worthy of the French crown. As the heir to her family, she knows she must always act — calm and wise and perfect. Ever since she was old enough to understand words, she has been told of how her actions impact the future of her family. If she does one thing wrong, she could ruin the family’s legacy for years to come. She understands the power she holds in her hands and the responsibilities that lie on her shoulders.

But there is more to Lani than the beautiful, polished woman with straight posture that her subjects see. She is smart, clever, and knows how to manipulate the power she holds into the kingdom’s advantage rather than her family’s. She knows when to be outspoken and provide her opinion and she can often make her father listen to her ideas and do things her way. She seems to always have a solution to a problem and is always ready to solve it. She loves riddles and will think for days to figure one out. She is intelligent and witty and knows exactly how to manipulate a situation to her favor.

Yet beneath her cold, polished, and manipulative exterior, Lani is a genuinely kind people-pleaser. She hates being wrong and it's one of her worst fears to make a mistake, afraid it will impact the entire kingdom. She has a great sense of humor but usually doesn't show it, as a soon-to-be queen shouldn't laugh at petty jokes. However when she is alone with her siblings, she will laugh and tease and play games all day long. She loves being outdoors, though she is careful to never be caught climbing a tree by anyone but her family. She isn't afraid to get down and dirty, but is usually very careful to clean herself off immediately after, so her parents won't find out. It isn't very fitting of a princess to been seen with mud where her blush should be on her cheeks.

Lani is extremely dedicated to her family. She's the oldest of her siblings, therefore witnessing each of their births and treasuring the first time she held each one as a baby. She has a motherly disposition about her, but tries not to be too bossy. She has a wonderful relationship with everyone in her family (except maybe her youngest sister who seems to despise her) and is very accepting of all of them. Lani is not a confident person, but she knows her family accepts her for who she is on the inside even if the kingdom may not. She depends on their support and fears the time when she must one day rule the kingdom on her own.

Sᴛʀᴇɴɢᴛʜs: Aylani is very intelligent and clever, always knowing how to solve a problem. She also knows how to manipulate situations to her favor and how to manuever her way to court politics. She has a genuinely kind disposition as well, making it difficult for a person, or a kingdom, to dislike her.
Wᴇᴀᴋɴᴇssᴇs: Aylani is not confident in herself or her choices, whatsoever. She is always afraid she'll make the wrong decision, though she rarely does. She never acts like her carefree self in front of visitors and has a polished exterior her subjects only see. She is also not much of a romantic, making that a difficult part of politics for her. And she is a huge people-pleaser, which can sometimes impact her decisions.
Gᴏᴀʟs:
◆ To be the best queen she can be
◆ To rule confidently
Fᴇᴀʀs:
◆ Losing her title as heir
◆ Her subjects hating her true personality
◆ Being alone to rule
Dʀᴇᴀᴍs:
◆ To be herself in front of everyone, including her subjects
◆ To see the world

✓ Reading
✓ Climbing trees
✓ Playing with her younger siblings
✓ Learning new things
✓ Being herself

Hᴀɪʀ: A very dark brown color, usually appearing black except when it's in the sunlight, that reaches all the way down to her hips and usually in curls. She received her hair color from her father.
Eʏᴇs: A pale blue color, often seeming gray-ish. She received her eye color from her father.
Dʀᴇssɪɴɢ Sᴛʏʟᴇ: She is always wearing what she is supposed to be when she is supposed to be. Long gowns are most common, the fanciness of them according to the event or time of day. Most of them have low necklines and some do show her shoulders, something that would be looked down upon if she were anything but a princess. She can essentially get away with wearing whatever she wants, but tends to follow the rules anyways.
