A few arrivals in the mail today, one new and one old:
Defeat and Division: France at War, 1939–1942 by Douglas Porch
When the Odds Were Even: The Vosges Mountains Campaign, October 1944-January 1945 by Keith Bonn
That was a great post MR9! I really liked these two bits;". . . we invariably found ourselves in the peculiar Canadian position of explaining the English to the Americans. (In the previous three years we had been explaining the Americans to the English.)"
And;
"Working the U.S. coastal and Caribbean convoy routes had certain advantages over the North Atlantic and UK waters. The weather was “balm to our fog-shrouded souls.” "

My copy is already on its way :)
Two excellent posts Jonny and MR9 - again highlights the fact that being in the Infantry isn't always a bad thing!

Good point MR9! Talking of Japanese atrocities during WW2 I still have this book to read on the subject:
Hidden Atrocities: Japanese Germ Warfare and American Obstruction of Justice at the Tokyo Trial by Jeanne Guillemin

Sounds pretty good to me Happy, keep us all posted :)
Great story MR9! My father-in-law served in an Australian corvette during WW2 - they really sounded like shit-buckets as far as I could tell!

"Tragedy at Dieppe: Operation Jubilee, August 19, 1942" - In the Epilogue of the book the author mentions a memorial erected on Red Beach at Dieppe which incorporates a maple-leaf motif and is designed so that when sunlight falls over the monument, the maple leaf is shadowed:https://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/rememb...
