204362 Hi June, yes, I think that would be a good idea :) I can also show the group a list of available stock and we can plan in advance that way too.

2017 March Poll (3 new)
Jan 20, 2017 08:37AM

204362 Greetings all!

Here is the link for the book to be discussed in March

https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/2...

Please let me know if you have any problems with voting.

Some of the other Library branches are extremely organised and have decided their book titles for the rest of the year - is that something that you would like to do?

Happy Reading,

Laura

204362 Hi folks,

Just for clarification, here's how to make up your own bookshelves for the 2017 reading challenges:

Go to My Books
Add shelf
Create a shelf for whatever challenge you want to participate in and name it as follows:

1000-books
2017-26-books
2017-52-books

Thanks!

Victoria :)

204362 Whether we believe in New Year Resolutions or not, want to change or are happy to stay the same, what books (be they health & fitness, diet, psychology, philosophy, fiction or non-fiction) would you recommend on the art of creating/achieving/maintaining happiness?
204362 Greetings, all!

Throughout the year we shall be expanding the titles we have available for our Reading Group, and our most recent titles are:-

All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders The History of Love by Nicole Krauss The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

I shall add these to the poll for next month's vote :)

Christmas Books (3 new)
Jan 06, 2017 03:48AM

204362 Greetings, all,

though some may dread the Christmas present that looks like a book, feels like a book, and, oh, yeah, it is a book, I just can't get enough of them! There is nothing better than being given a book for Christmas, whether a fancy coffee table book you never knew you always wanted, or something carefully chosen just for you.

What books did you receive over Christmas, good, bad, or ugly?

204362 The Sellout by Paul Beatty His Bloody Project by Graeme Macrae Burnet

Greetings everyone, I hope that the Festive Season is treating you well?

I am looking forward to our next meeting, where we will be discussing the comparative merits of these two books, and talking about what makes a book a prize winner. It is not necessary to read both, but if you can then that will add an extra dimension to our discussions.

Again, if anyone is unable to attend, but would still like to comment, please post below, or if you would just like to chat a little bit about the book beforehand :) Remember, no spoilers please :)

~Happy Reading~

Good Reads App (3 new)
Dec 09, 2016 03:24AM

204362 Greetings all,

for those of you who may have a smartphone or tablet, the Good Reads app is an excellent way to keep track of books on the go!

Just search the Google Play Store or your devices equivalent. It doesn't give you full interaction, but it lets you scan books when you are out and about to add to your 'To Read' shelves :)

Happy apping

Recommendations (4 new)
Dec 09, 2016 03:23AM

204362 Greetings everyone,

Please feel free to use this discussion folder to recommend titles that you have loved, and think others will enjoy.

The 'This topic is about' section above lets you put in a thumbnail picture link to the book that you are talking about. Working in a Library I get so many recommendations that it is difficult to keep track!

Happy recommending :)

204362 Greetings all,

Please do not be shy about recommending titles that you think would be good for Book Group. There are so many titles out there are authors that it is impossible not to miss a hidden gem! Please post your suggestions below throughout the year.

204362 Greetings all,

Please take a moment to vote in the poll (link below ) for the title that you would like to read in December for discussion in January. The option for the two books his Bloody Project and Sellout is a compare and contrast of Man Booker Prize Winner and Nominee, so half the group would read one title, and the other half the other and then we could talk about both in the meeting. The other titles are singular. We have more than enough copies of The African Equation to go around, but there will need to be some sharing of the other titles. Please feel free to make any nominations for possible book group titles in the Book Group Suggestions thread :)

Many thanks,

Laura
