203160 I think a large group like posted below shows the functionality of GR. You can place a book that you are currently reading on the frontpage en even see the group activity by clicking on it. Here you see how Club members rate the book and you can start a discussion about the book without being published on the regular GR site.

I also like the discussion board functionality where everybody can add posts and is better for discussion than Facebook comments in my opinion. I like the option to create sections. so you can create a section bout the book we are reading that month and everybody can start topics over there with questions and comments. In the Facebook comments things like that will get lost in the many comments

203160 This discussion boards are meant for discussing the books. You can create different subjects like Books and General discussion. The topic about the book that is currently read, can be pinned on the discussion board, but then again, Facebook also allows the pin of topics.

On GR every post you can add a book. So everyone can take a look at the books details by clicking on it. When someone is a member of this group and visits the book page, they can also see on that page all the topics this group started about this book. You can also randomly pick books and see which other group members read and rated that book.

The books that are currently being discussed by the group can be placed on the shelve, so everybody knows what we are currently reading. You can end a start date and an end date for the books.
You can also choose different genres within science, so you can create sub-groups. You can always find books that have been read back and see the discussions about that book.

Not playing advocate for GR here. Just sharing what I know about this site.

203160 I never used GR for a group either.

The problem with Facebook is that a book post easily gets buried under hundreds of other posts. Is there a way to prevent this?

And please feel free to start a Facebook club if the communication is easier there. Thats whats important in a book club

203160 Hallo,

I was wondering what you all aspect of a book club.
Are you expecting to only have discussions about books in general, or do you prefer reading the same book with the whole group at the same time and then discuss it.

The shelf in this group is actually meant for books the group is currently reading together and an discuss later. But since we are with so few people, I think it is best to let everybody ad books as reading tip.

Please tell me what you think.

203160 Hello everybody,

I started this group because there was a growing demand for a book club on the TSE Facebook page.

I never started a GoodReads group before, so please give me some time and advice (and patience) how to handle this.

I am not an admin of TSE so this club is not officially related to the Facebook page.

I hope we all can share and talk the books that we love in hear and with that expand our basic knowledge of things!

BTW, feel free to add books to the club's shelf that you thing everyone should read.
