Has your friend done any self-editing considering you mention she is looking for a first-round editor? First draft manuscripts will naturally have many more errors than one that has been read through and amended several times, meaning that many editors will charge much more for the level of time involved.

Over the years we've seen the level of authors using professional editors decline as the number of self-published books increased, and on speaking with many authors we found this is due to the costs involved.
