Hop on over to our blog where you can find our guide to self-editing your own manuscript and what you need to be looking out for.

Has your friend done any self-editing considering you mention she is looking for a first-round editor? First draft manuscripts will naturally have many more errors than one that has been read through and amended several times, meaning that many editors will charge much more for the level of time involved.
My company, BookEdits101, have a low set price for edits and I'd be happy to discuss the project with you further. We're happy to work with USD. Between us, me and my colleagues have over 25 years experience editing and proofreading manuscripts and we keep our price low for the benefit of authors like your friend.
You're more than welcome to visit our website for more details (www.bookedits101.wordpress.com) where we offer lots of free advice for authors. Please also feel free to PM here on Goodreads or send me a direct email bookedits101[at]gmail.com
Best wishes

I co-run Book Edits 101 with two other professional editors with 25 years experience between us.
We offer beta-reading, editing and proofreading services for authors, all at one affordable price of 101 (in any currency).
Over the years we've seen the level of authors using professional editors decline as the number of self-published books increased, and on speaking with many authors we found this is due to the costs involved. Many authors can't afford upwards of £500 for a full edit, when there's no guarantee they'd ever make that money back.
So we created an easy price structure that we hope will help many authors who may have skipped the editing phase completely otherwise.
Our unique combined development and copy editing will offer you feedback on plot and pacing, structure and characterisation, as well as spelling and grammar.
If you'd like to know more, you are more than welcome to visit us on our website (www.bookedits101.wordpress.com). You can also send us a PM here on Goodreads or a direct email at bookedits101[at]gmail.com
We look forward to hearing from you!
