I'm not sure what you are saying. Yes. Copyright attorneys are not cheap, depending on what service you need from them. But an author can register copyright at the US Copyright Office for as little as, I think, $35. You can have an attorney do it for you. But, in my humble opinion, any attorney who charges more than, say, $150 -200 for such work is too costly.

201765 Yeah, you've always needed to have copyright registered with the Copyright Office to enforce claims in court. This case is just a matter of legal hair splitting.

The Supreme Court in Fourth Estate v. Wall-Street.com was asked when, exactly, copyright was registered, a) when the copyright holder sent in his/her application, or b) when the Copyright Office finished the application and returned the completed registration to the copyright holder.

The court said b). Copyright isn't registered until the application process is complete.

Hope that helps.

PS Hairsplitting, yet another reason people hate lawyers.
201765 Greetings, all. I've been on Goodreads off-and-on for a few years, mostly doing the occasional Beta-read, but recently I've found the grit to start publishing my own writing. (I've been a shameless scribbler longer than I care to admit.)

Here are my digits. Drop me line if you want to compare notes. I'm always good for a kind word or a bit of advice.

D.J.,

I have to know. On a scale of 1-10, how mad is "barking mad"?

Love it. It earned you a follow.

201765 Happy to announce indie publication of my first book, a dark fantasy novella entitled "Wergild: A Heartwarming Tale of Coldblooded Vengeance." Not the first thing I've written, but the first I've published. It was a delight to write from beginning to end. It's available on Amazon in print and ebook.

The Blurb:

Tormented, robbed, and murdered by their Gheet neighbors, the Surrey folk of the County of Blenheim are a battered and cowed people in their own land. It's what happens when you lose a war. Deirdre is just a Surrey farm-girl, but when the Gheet murder those she holds most dear, she refuses to sit around and wait for her own slaughter. She wants justice, she wants vengeance, she wants blood, and she's willing to do anything to get it, even if that means selling her soul to the fiend, a dark and malevolent creature that lurks in the far-off barrow in the blackest woods of the forest. One way or the other, she'll have her vengeance.
