I question the 100-250 per year sales number. That would mean that a writer who self publishes ebooks makes $300-$750 per year for each book. The fact that so many people are putting the time, money and effort into self publishing and associated service industries suggests that the average is higher. There is a lot of room between $750 per year and making it big.
However, perhaps it would be wise to remain conservative at first. My copy is relatively clean and free of errors, but it would be nice to have an inexpensive developmental review. Of course, at the above numbers ($300 - $750 per year), a $100 beta read would be an unwise expense. Good thing I can’t get anyone to beta read it.
Why is it so hard to get money data? Seems odd.
Again, thanks for the comments!

Thanks for the referrals, Theodore and Carole. Also, I like Michael Cash's covers. Very compelling imagery.

Can anyone comment on whether a first novel is likely to justify these costs? Or will it languish in low-ranked Amazon obscurity?
I have no idea how to go about marketing the thing. When I read posts and articles about facebook this and promo that, I get the same fuzzy headache that comes when the A/C guy tries to explain the condenser and coils to me. My brain just doesn't want to know.

How much do you spend on cover art and editing?
I have quotes for $1500+ for each of these services and am hesitant to lay our $3k-$4k as this is my very first novel.
Something tells me I will not make this money back.
Thanks,
