I just realized I said Createspace (I'm redoing all my books and have Createspace on the brain) I meant Smashwords. No, Createspace is great.
It was years ago that I quit Smashwords, so I can't recall all the formatting issues I had. Given my experience over the years I imagine I could do it now, but that first impression left me feeling so stressed out that I doubt I will ever give them another chance. I simply was not getting the sales to put up with the experience.

When I first started writing, I tried Smashwords and found their formatting requirements a nightmare. Every few days I would get a notice that my book was removed for infraction or another. A few months ago, I moved several low-performing books to Pronoun. Great setup, but they folded recently. I have 18 novels out, but I have had very little to almost no success with any of them outside of Amazon. With KDP select, you get promotion options like countdown deals, free days, and AMS advertising. You also get paid for every page read by KU members. (Makes up 70% of my income these days) I usually recommend people start with KDP select, and if it doesn't work out, you remove it from the program and upload to Smashwords or Draft to Digital. (I think that's the one a lot of people are using since Pronoun folded) You're still on Amazon, just not select. That way you can publish through any other vendor as well.
