201765 I have never used Smashwords so I don't know how hard it is to use but from what you are saying with your experiences with them it seems to me the answer is no. You have spent hours with very little reward and are not happy with them. You have answered your own question. I am happy to provide you with confirmation of that answer but you already recognize what you should do.

I had an idea for a book and was convinced that I knew exactly how to write it but when I tried, it just wouldn't flow. I gave up on that book for a while and tried a book in a completely different genre to see if I could actually write a book. I was surprised at how fast that one flowed out of me. I am still working on that first book over two years later and have written four books in the meantime.

201765 Have you ever read Game of Thrones. He kills multiple main characters off, it is multiple books and even his nice characters are pretty bad. And they made it a series on HBO.

201765 I'm not sure how you can say that people don't like cliffhangers. Almost all television series work to try to end seasons on cliffhangers to spark people into watching them when they come back. I think a lot of people complain about it but secretly love it. I wouldn't worry about it but you could tease your second book to them at the end of the first and maybe include a chapter or two for them to see that it's going to happen.

201765 Something that we should all remember is that almost no one speaks in proper sentences. We are all lazy. Therefore in the dialogue itself there can be shortening of words, runon sentences and non related topics but there shouldn't be those in the descriptive sentences.
